Ugrading to a newer system with higher performance specifications

You can upgrade you memory to 2 x 512MB DDR PC2700 333MHz, and install pretty much any size 2.5" IDE hard drive you wish. Installing Vista will make this machine very very slow. Windows 7 would be better as it uses less resources. Ideally XP Pro would be better suited based on this boards specifications.

Can I upgrade 32 mb Video display of my compaq evo n1000c?

As the Video Card is integrated into the Motherboard for your Model, the only way to upgrade is to change the entire board with a larger integrated Video Card. I believe there is a board with a 64MB ATI Card available. Cost of this board replacement may be more than ugrading to a newer system with higher performance specifications. Compaq Evo N1000c overheated with replacement battery I bought on-line on e-bay. Any suggestions on a safe one?

Good prices, fast delivery.

No I don't work for them

To be curious. what overheated the laptop itself causing it to thermal shutdown? Or just the battery

Compaq EVO N1000C boots up to desktop, but the screen is not on.

How do you know that it boots all the way when you cannot see anything on the screen?

To check if the video card on the laptop is functioning properly, connect the laptop to an external monitor. When you boot up you may see Windows start on the monitor, if not press the Fn key plus one of the Function keys that switches (toggles) between the LCD and the external video (usually one of the keys from F3 to F8).
If you don't get a video image then the video card which is part of the motherboard, is faulty - it can't be repaired cheaply, usually requires a new motherboard.
If you get a video image on the monitor, then the LCD could be faulty or the LCD video and/or backlight connectors on the motherboard is not making proper electrical connection. Then it may be fixed by reseating them.

I cannot enable the wireless connection on the compaq Evo n1000c

For the built-in wireless on this model (EVO N1000C) the key combination to enable/disable wireless is Fn + F2. If pressing the Fn and F2 keys together does not enable the wireless, it may be disabled in the BIOS.

If you need to check this, here are the instructions to enter the BIOS:
Turn off the computer. Power it on and immediately start tapping the F10 key about once per second until you see the BIOS screen.

When plugged in does not start up

Looks like the battery is screwed. This usually happens with laptop batteries when not recharged for a certain amount time(Usually around 2-3 months). Replace the battery and every thing will be back to normal.
