Question about Hitachi HDT725050VLAT80 500 GB EIDE Hard Drive

Need to install OEM Windows 98

I successfully installed your EIDE Hard Drive 160 GB WD Caviar SE on my Compaq Presario Model 5725. This upgrade was intended to replace the previous Hard Drive that had Configuration problems and no longer was capable of operating the Windows 98 system in the "Normal" mode. I was only able to operate in the "Safe" mode. I planned that I would utilze your drive as the new boot main drive and then capture the programs I wanted from the slave drive (formerly C:\ main drive). So, after installing your drive I encountered an error statement "Operating system not found on the hard drive" and I agree as I have the Windows 98 OEM disk and the Second Addition Update in my hands? How do I transfer these operating system disks to your hard drive?? I need explicit step-by-step instructions? I already ran your Diagnostics Bootable disk with no errors encountered. I need the drivers a western digital sata 160 g hard drive model wd1600aabb for the xp platform please!!! can anyone help?

There are no such drivers....sata hard drives use windows drivers...if the computer is asking for drivers for a hard drive, then it is seeking drivers within windows...which means there could be corruption in those windows drivers that the WD HDD needs. Try going to windows update, let it load and check for updates and instead of hitting express, hit custom and look in the left hand pane for hardware updates and see if the drivers for a hard drive would be there. WD only offers Firmware updates and software for its HDD's.

Drivers for simple 160gb

To access an external USB drive in Windows 98, you need to be using Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). Before SE, there was no USB support in Windows 98.

Even then, you will probably not be able to access the full 160Gb of the hard drive. Your best bet is to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, such as 2000, or XP. I know that, depending on your hardware, that might be asking a little too much, but to support all these more modern gadgets, you're going to have to give up on 98 eventually.

Hope this helps.

Western digital 500 gig hd eide disc error????

Take it back to the store - this is a common problem with WD drives and WD are doing nothing to address this issue with their larger drives. Buy another make and you should be trouble free.

Installing new hard drive

its brand new right? have it reformatted for the first time. you can do this by installing an OS and it prompts you to reformat it. actually, there are other ways to do that but for me, this is the most secure way to reformat a new harddrive in your situation.

hope this helps.

I guess there is nothing with BIOS since it identify your Western Digital Caviar Hard Drive. Try changing the jumper setting of this Hard Drive by reading the Instruction that comes along when you purchase. Otherwise you can visit the Western Digital website and click on Support-Knowledge BASE...
