I have A tech coming out tomorrow. It sounds and smells like the power supply board. Is there parts still available?

Look at the hori output Transistor and right behind it feeding to output is a 2K volt capacitor Ive seen them with tiny burt hole in them,causing lost of high voltage,if it is OK then you either have Bad FBT or Bad STK ICs. STK392-110s Mats Has Parts for this set 1-800-628-1118

i agree with you about the fire hazard and i had many feedbacks about this tv, mostly conscious about fire hazard too.

i would suggest that in light of owning a high-def tv, it would be significantly appropriate to place this in a room with airconditioning as to diminish the heat this hdtv produces.

about the issue of the hdtv turning off, if you suspect the transformer and other parts to be the reason for the tv to malfunction, why not bring it to a certified service center which handles GE hdtv. i would say that it may be a pain but as to think of the outcome, it may be worth it.

hope this helps.

well if your tv was to be a normal tube tv, i could suggest to check your crt socket. in this case its projestion tv, so your are having three crt sockets. the main problem is with your main flyback transfomer. try to change the flyback and it should work back to normal. other way to test is try to adjust your transfomers focus, if it is adjusted, and goes blury again, then you need to change it,...and try to re-service the luck

After my 70" tv is on for a period of time, it turns off and won't come back on for a while.

Good Day, Connie ss;
The next time the TV turns off try this:
This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. MAY BE INTERMITTENT, SELF-DIAGNOSIS ERROR 23 OR 24. CHECK SOLDER CONNECTIONS AT CONNECTOR "DY" ON THE YOKES. 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF-DIAGNOSIS ERROR 23 OR 24. CHECK C411 2200 UFD 35 V AND C412 10 UFD 50 V, BOTH LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB. I hope this was helpful, good luck, big IRISH.

T.V. turns self off

This is a common problem. May people have been noticing in the back of the television large sparks and flames are being thrown. The unit then detects overheating and turns itself off. Please report this problem to the consumer product safety commision. I beleieve this common problem with large sparks and flames warrants a recall.
