Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV308 Camcorder

1 Answer

Sony trv308 failure code C:32:22

I have tested camera and fails when play,FF, and REW are used. It looks like cassette reels move slightly but it faults out with code. Is there something to look for to resolve this problem?

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

The DVD works fine but the VCR doesn't play, rewind or forward tape.

l would have a look inside to see if when a tape is inserted it loads and will ff and rew, if the transport that moves the tape has failed it will account for what is happening.

The auto stop mechanism seems to have completely stopped working. When play a cassette, it eats it. When you put the deck into play mode without a cassette and push on the pinch roller with your finger, it...

When's the last time it was cleaned? It surely needs it now.

Never touch the any part of the transport that directly contacts the tape with bear fingers.

This sounds like a failure of the take-up (left) reel to take up slack as it's fed in by the capstan.

You can probably trust the machine to fast forward or rewind a tape to test the ability of the reels to manage slack since either action only requires one reel to pull while the other just coasts. Failure would look like stationary tape that eventually would time out and reset the command.

If it won't do fast transport motions that eliminates the capstan/pinch roller.

If it CAN FF and REW then the capstan, pinch roller, heads or something is probably glommed up with sticky tape oxide, which brings us back to the first question.

Record 8 seconds and stop, same problem when playback, rew or FF.

There is a reel sensor - the spindle of the cassette- fitted beneath with is normally an opto-coupler or a magnetic sensor. when the reel moves it produces pulses that is needed to keep the processor asking the motor to work. A failure of the reel will stop the motor as no pulse is generated.
You need good experience to remove open and check to confirm.

Tape Transport issue

FF and Rewind are functions of the reels, not the capstans. If the reels fail to rotate in response to capstan-driven tape motion the unit will assume a broken tape or end of tape. I think you have a mechanical reel drive system failure. Take it to a shop for evaluation and correction.

I push play and it stops after 2 seconds, same with rew, and fwd

Is the tape actually moving when you initiate transport commands? Most machines are smart enough to know something isn't moving when it should be. That it fails in BOTH FF and REW suggests the reels aren't moving to take up slack. Cheap machines use glorified rubber bands as drive belts for the reels. Without specifics re: make/model we can't get too precise with an answer. I'd have a pro look at it.

Sony SLV-N71 VCR makes a rattling sound (ff, rew)

I make no claim to being any kind of an expert techie but it sounds to me like there are one or more loose or badly worn parts inside your machine. If you haven't had a look at the innards, try that. Loose things can usually be re-secured and, sometimes, worn parts can be replaced.

Handycam says C:31:22

error 31:22 means camera mechanism has error in take-up reel section and micro processor isn't receiving reel signal so it shuts down playback/ record function immediately. look into take-up reel section of mechanism.

Onkyo TA-207 3-head cassette deck

The gearing and rubber parts involved in FF or REW vs. play are different. This unit should be overhauled and all of the rubber parts replaced.

Problem with deck B on Pioneer CT-W205R

Better tape decks, like Pioneer, may use a different mechanism for record/play than FF & REW. So it sounds like a belt or mechanical link for the REC/PLAY has failed.

Cassette tapes

try firmly banging the cassette onto a table top(with reels flat) a few times, then ff right through and rew a couple of times. this will layer the tape more evenly and hopefully allow the mechanism to play it. the takeup reel or autostop mechanism may be failing if the deck does not have enough torque to carry the tape and may require belts replaced or dried grease removed in the transport.
