Question about Radar Detectors

Car trouble I have a 91 dodge shadow. The car "bucks" then dies down then starts going again. The RPMS are fine for the gears. Could you tell me what it could be? It does it all the time not just in the cold weather.

When I start com puter the only thing what I see is motherboard display and when it goes to bios it's warnish and start again

Hard drive OS is not loading from HD, go into bios and acknowledge HD settings again. Make sure Mode is set to IDE. many units have trouble with SATA drives losing connectivity. Pull the battery on the Motherboard and reset the bios to factory with power plug out. Repower and see if your drive comes back. Could be a failed drive or even a virus.

The simplest advice is to check the power connections. If connected to the cigar lighter / power outlet of the car, remove & reinsert the plug into the outlet.
Still no luck?
Try powering up the detector in another vehicle's cigar lighter / power jack. If it works - try again in your car. The problem is not with the detector, but rather with the installation in your car.
If wired directly to an accessory terminal or other place in the car, check the connection(s) and cable for damage.
If you can't try it in another car, try plugging another device into the outlet to see if it works or check and replace any blown fuse for the outlet. You should consult your car's owner's manual for the fuse box location - and the location and amp rating of the fuse for the outlet.
Check the power cord. Make sure the cord is fully inserted into the detector - not hanging in the jack. The opposite end - that goes into the cigar lighter / power outlet *may* have a built in fuse in the tip. You should check to see if the center tip of the plug unscrews to provide access to the fuse. If it does, replace any blown fuse with the same type and amp rating and try again.
If you were unable to check in another car and you are still unable to power up the detector, there may be an internal problem with detector itself. In this case, contact the manufacturer for additional help.

I am having the same problem. I just did the software upgrade and the dector now turns off and it must be unpluged then pluged back in and it will only operate around 5 minutes then you have to do it all over again. It appears to be a product problem with software down loads.

Starts going off when a higher speed is reached

THis is a weird one! The only thing that makes sense is some sort of interference that is impacting the electronics inside the detector. Sometimes ignition "noise" can cause this behavior. I have seen ignition noise so severe that a Garmin GPS would not work inside the car.

Can you test this without moving the car? If you rev the engine while the car is parked, does the detector still go off? This will allow you to determine if there is some form of intermittent operation inside the detector caused by solder joints, etc., or a problem associated with electrical noise.

BTW, what type of car do you have?

the problem never happens when it's cool or cold
my problem always happens when i turn the unit on, not while already riding/driving out of the blue

i believe the problem might be from the unit getting hot from being in a car, or on a motorcycle, or in a jacket in the hot sun then powering it up while still very hot, some kind of overheat circuit

find a way to cool it off, ride a short distance with it turned off then turn it on or...

also take the 8500 in you right hand and tap it in you left hand 3-5 times, it should start up and be fine. this doesn't have anything to do with temperature but i've had luck with it

good luck

False Laser warning when engine RPM goes over 3000.

Hey guys, me again....Deadcandance..... I posted my trouble on a Satellite forum I belong to and I had a suggestion which I tried. And it worked!!!!! No manufacture returns, no cost at all, what I did was tokk it apart gently how everything comes apart so that you can reassemble again....

Start by getting a couple Q-Tips (Ear Swabs).Leave them dry so they won;t leave any residue on the diodes. Gently clean the horn, than clean/wipe the electronics board, and blow out the diffusion screen (leave the spit in your mouth). After I wiped the unit down, I didn't see any dust persay or dirt on the Q-tip but whatever I did, fixed it....
It worked for me. Took 15 minutes to do and I have been using the Radar for three months and not one false alarm in Laser mode.
Good luck...
