Question about Mitsubishi WT-42311 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Turnes off, sometimes in a short period, and sometimes it will go for hours.

After a short period it will turn back on. As a rule once it starts turning off it will keep it up for the night, but I only try to turn it back on a few times. I have had the set around 5 years with no other problems.

Sometimes it opens and sometimes it dont , sometimes it plays discs and sometimes it dont turned it on and had the red rings of death turned it off then on and they were gone some times the fan dont start...

This is called Red Ring of Death or RROD by the community, it means that the CPU or GPU or both have a bad solder joint, that is caused from rapid heating and cooling from poor cooling design of the xbox 360. To fix it is pretty simple. Follow these instructions to take apart your 360: Stop once you've removed the dvd drive. Now Remove the fans from the back, and set them on the heatsink on the right the flat one, and make sure they are pointing where the air is going up. Put a peice of of carboard or plastic something non conductive in between the heatsinks to prevent airflow from the fans. Turn on the 360, and leave it til it goes from 3 rings to 2 rings, wait 3 minutes, then switch the fan over to the other side. Wait about as long as you did for the other one then turn off the 360. Wait 1 hour for the 360 to cool off. DO NOT move the 360 while it is cooling down durning this period or you will permantly ruin it, the solder is being reflowed. After an hour, put the fans back, and turn the 360 on, it should work. Once its working, I recommend doing a 12 volt mod on the fans to prevent RROD from happening again, and changing out the thermal paste with artic silver 5. As for reading discs, open up the drive air it out, but not the laser, use a qtip and some rubbing alchol, clean it off and put it back together. Fans all you can do is replace them which I recommend just buying off of ebay or

Trouble Starting

sound like either leaking injector or failing fuel pump/check valve

cannot diagnose with a scan tool because you need to run a power balance test

however, being that the vehicle is 8 years old, I'd shoot for the pump first.

to confirm leak down you will need a fuel pressure tester installed before you shut the vehicle down, then wait a few hours and check fuel pressure before turning the key on. fuel pressure should be withing a few psi of what it was when you parked the vehicle

This doesn't necessarily rule out the inverter. I've had inverters with intermittent problems that had the same effect, so having the inverter tested is the only way to rule it out. Other possibilities are a bad connection, a corroded/dirty pin or socket in a connector, a bad ribbon/cable, and a failing backlight. If it is a failing backlight, the entire screen will need replaced, as the screen is considered a sealed unit and the backlight isn't available and not considered a replaceable item. Also, it's rare, but it could have a faulty motherboard component or video card. I'm leaning towards a faulty backlight, but keep in mind the inverter and cable possibility. Start by checking and cleaning all connections.

Loud whirring. Not the fan.

The fan noise is normal on this set. The lamps are cooled via this method. Your users manual explains this issue..and it is the fan as you can see it slows down after the tv is switched off..
