Question about Certance (CL400LWF-SE) (CL400LWFSE) Ultrium Tape Drive

Open Question

Certance LTO3 POST failure error code

I have a Certance/Quantum LTO3 400/800GB stand-alone drive. The Power light is on, the Error light is flashing quickly, and the Status light is on solid.

The drive has been power cycled, as has the server it is attached to. The other tape drive in the case works fine. I have a feeling that I am completely hosed. Is my best bet to get Quantum on the phone first thing in the morning and see about a replacement (as the drive is still under warranty)?

Thanks,

Chris

Certance CL1101 LTO-3 Tape Drive (Full Height) - Backup Failed last night. Tape never popped out. BE says Device is offline, even after I place Online. Restarted Server and 2U Rack Mount Box that holds Tape Drive. Tape Drive, after power cycle displays Power Light as Solid Green, Activity Light Off, Error Light Rapid Flashing Red, Status Light Solid Amber. Please help?!?!?

Our tape drive also refuses to eject and has the flashing error light with an amber status light. We are ready to return based on a week of testing with another issue, now this!

    Did  you have any luck?

The drive has a 3 year warranty (I think) with Quantum. Return for warranty replacement.

Been a long time since using one of these, but you more than likely need a head cleaner and solution. They are mentioned on this site if you read down http://www.taperesources.com/HARDWARE/ETRA-40-I-AT-Q.html

SOURCE: ultrium tape stuck

I highly recommend that you contact Certance for assistance. Tape drives are expensive and you don't want to risk damaging it.

If you are feeling brave you could see if you can manually eject the tape.
Remove the tape drive from the chassis and look for a manual rewind screw on the bottom or back of the drive. This is provided on some drives to allow you to manually wind the tape back into the cartrige and eject it.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Certance Ultrium 2 tape drive

Bet if you check, it is not overwritting the tape (appending) on the first tape, but will overwrite the second. Check the media properties to see. If it is this, it has probably had an update when it started going south....
Same problem here, on with Symantec about it...

IBM LTO3 error code 5

Hi Ray

Error 5 on the front panel usually refers to a read write error of some description.
First of all try a (not expired) cleaning tape and then try a backup on a BRAND NEW LTO tape.

If this does not solve the issue then your drive probably needs a repair and service due to a worn or badly calibrated head.

Tip

Ejecting magazines from the LTO3

If you need to remove a magazine or both, you can always stick a credit card or hotel room card between the slot on either the left or right of the LTO3 display, this will disengage the lock allowing for one or both magazines to open. Normally you can only remove one magazine at a time.

Just want the error code lights on front.

They're both status and error indicators.

Certance was formerly known as Seagate. Using that as the make the Installation Manual popped right up on a web search.

NEED DRIVERS FOR STD224000N

The driver for this Archive > Seagate > Certance > and finally Quantum drive was included in Windows. Try Window Device Manager > select the drive > properties > update driver > Can Windows Update select No not at this time > Install from a list... > Don't Search...> Tape Drive > try either the Standard tape drives DAT driver or a Compaq DAT. If none of those work you are probably out of luck.

I am getting a DRV PREV REMOVAL TYPE (46) message on display, every time I try and Inventory a tape or run Lable Media.

I have two of these Quantum SuperLoader 3 (with LTO3 drives) and one does keep giving me the same hassle. I haven't figured out how to fix this, but I've gotten past the error: disconnect the autoloader from the host computer (i.e. or stop rsm, mtx, or whatever controlling sofware you use), reboot the autoloader, get the tape out of the drive (e.g. move command from the autoloader's console or web interface), insert a cleaning tape (a few times), reconnect everything (i.e. start back up your controlling service).

Quantum superloader not showing in windows device manager

First off, I have to say that I have had nightmares with Quantum tape libraries. It is possible that they are still manufacturing lemons. I had one replaced 4-times and it still did not work!

Start troubleshooting by making sure that it is identified by the controller card it is connected to. You should see this during the server POST before Windows starts. If you don't see it there then Windows definitely won't see it. Send it to Quantum for service.

If the controller sees it then make sure that you are using the Backup Exec drivers. Never use the manufacturer's drivers with Backup Exec. Veritas, now Symantec, has a downloadable utility called the Device Driver Installation Wizard that will make sure you have the correct driver loaded.

I hope this helps.
