The wire inside the ps2 came out while i was cleaning the laser and i can't figure out how to put it back in...

You don't want to open the disc drive, you want to clean the laser lens. That's the part that looks like this:

If cleaning the lens doesn't resolve the problem, that same website also has a means of purchasing a replacement. If you just want to clean the inside of the disc drive, put the PS2 back together and open up the tray.

Clean everything with a cotton swab, including the laser lens.

i had a issue with my ps2 discs not spinnig but its was actually the laser which was dirty, i opened mine [ very annoying and hard as sum cord and come off easily and you have to have sum knowlegde as to how to put back together if wires start cominh off, of course if you have a slim try seeing if the laser lens is dirty , if so gently clean the lens with a soft cloth as to not make any marks on the lens, if its the motor well hey it could be replaced but ive never looked inside one yet

so if you have a phat ps2 then start removein the screws located on the bottom of the ps2, you can find instructions on google for correct disassembly, then when you have taken the top off and moved upside down towards the side of the dvd drive as the cord isnt that long and it should rest well, the the cover on the dvd needs to be removed and then you can see the lens, i simply toke my finger and cleaned it but this ps2 had a lot of dirt as it was thrown awaying by the prior owner, then reassembled and checked and mine worked, hope this is helpful

its not dealing with the laser. your cord inside connecting your ps2 top cover to your tray might be lose or not connecting like it should. take apart the ps2 and see if it is connected. if not place it back inside the tray slot inside of the ps2.

Try cleaning the laser with a DRY q-tip in a circular motion. Just be gentle ;)

If that doesn't work then the laser needs to be replaced :(

Hi, it sounds like your laser is either dirty or dead. first try to clean your laser with a Q-tip and some glass cleaner (no streaks that way). This will require you opening up your PS2. Take all the screws out of the bottom os it and pull the top off, be careful there is a ribbon cable that is attached to your power and eject buttons. You will be able to see your DVD drive. take all 4 screws out and take the top off. The laser will be right there. Swab the laser with the Q-tip and use the dry end to dry it off. Put the top back on and plug it in to the wall and your t.v. See if it will read the discs before you put it back together. If it won't then your laser is shot and needs replaced. But while you have it apart you can order a new laser for about $29.00 and install it while its apart. If it does read the discs then its fixed and you can put it back together.

put some wieght on the ps2 disk cover flap eg a game cover that fixed mine otherwise i would trash it man ;)

When you first put a CD/DVD into the Playstation 2, the disc spins enough so that the laser can read if it's a CD, DVD movie, DVD ps2 game or CD ps1 or 2 game to spin at the appropriate speed. If there is no disc inside, or the laser thinks there is no disc inside, the disc will only spin that 1/2 of a turn. So what would cause the laser to think there is no disc inside?

A dirty laser. Try cleaning the laser and see if it helps. If you can see crust or dust covering the laser eye, it may not be strong enough to read anything at all. If the laser looks clean, this is probably not the issue.

An unplugged laser cable. These things normally do not come out by themselves, but if you opened the ps2 that was spinning OK to clean the laser and/or removed the laser to clean it, plugged it in, now it's spinning 1/2 of a turn, the laser cable may not be in securely. If it is in securely, make sure it is plugged into the motherboard end properly.

A dead laser. On models 30001, 35001, and some 30001R, this is the most likely issue. These models are old and the original lasers were a bit unreliable. I would suggest using a 400C since it is a better laser [and more available] than the 400B. YES, despite anything you have read, you CAN replace a 400B with a 400C IN ALL CASES.

hi is your ps2 the one where the lid lifts up to put the disk in if so their can sometimes be a problem with switch on the lid when you press the button to load the game push down on the lid and hold it down and if this is the problem then the game will load.
My ps2 has this problem and i have to put books or bottle of somekind on the lid to keep the lid pressed down far enough so that the switch works and loads the game.

Also you could try cleaning the laser lense you can buy a lense cleaning disk and that will clean it for you and if thats the problem as moving it might have caused the dust to move inside a bit affecting the laser have a go at these ideas then get back to me ok
