Question about DISH Network ViP622 DVR DTV Receiver / 180-Hours Video Recorder

DVR powers on and off repeatedly

The fan on the unit runs constantly, and the TV1 yellow light comes on for about 15-20 seconds, then off for a similar timeframe. No signal shows on the TV. It worked yesterday(day they hooked it up), now this....any help would be appreciated.

Mine is doing the same thing. I've checked all of the connections, performed a hard reset, unplugged the unit overnight, tried plugging it into a different outlet and not on a surge protector in case that was failing, I'm unable to even get a menu up so I can try to run the point dish test. Nothing works!

Finally got a good tech @ Dish and they are replacing the unit, upgrading my external dish for free, giving me week long refund on the HD programming. They would have given a refund for the entire week, but I have 2 other 311 receivers that are fully functioning.

Hopefully getting a new receiver will solve the problem.

Remove any surge protectors and use a plug bug tester on your outlet to insure you don't have a hot-neutral reverse. Also make sure the box is sitting on a solid surface with nothing obstructing its ventilation, such a carpet or other consoles sitting on top of it.

I'm an installer. I would suggest upgrading to a 722kViP receiver. The 622's were a very faulty line.

I would suggest bypassing any surge protectors, (receivers are sensitive to staic electricity which will build up if not grounded properly) if not in a surge protector plug into a different outlet, if this doesnt help call dish network the receiver is probably defective

I have the same problem, and the same unit. NOTHING HELPS! They sent me a new unit, and guess what? Same problem. The only thing that helps is switching services. You gotta go with cable or Direct tv. The dvr's with dish don't work. I bet in a year or two you'll find out that the product itself was faulty. Screw them.

No picture and the fan will not stop running,

Are you receiving no picture on TV1 or TV2?

If it is on TV1 you will want to verify your television is on channel 3 or 4. In some cases with the VIP receivers it may be 65 or 72 as well. I would also suggest going through the inputs on the receiver. Most tvs would list it as a "tv/video", "source", or "input". You'll also want to make sure all connections are tight and secure. At last resort you can try a hard reset by unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds.

It no picture is on TV2, you will want to confirm what channel the TV should be on by using TV1. On TV1 go to Menu then press 6-1-5 and change TV2 to the channel showing in "TV2 out".

With the fan running that is completely normal as the DVR function is always in use. It always has the capability to be paused and to use the rewind function so the fan is always cooling the hard drive.

For the past two days, the DVR is unresponsive for about 2-3 hours in the morning. The unit seems to cycle on and off by itself every 30-40 seconds or so and I hear the fan running each time. I am not...

Hello, this is Luke, let me help you on your concern. A DVR which reboots by itself always means a power failure. Try to isolate the issue first by plugging in the DVR to a good power outlet. I suggest to plug it directly to a working wall outlet to make sure that it is not a power surge suppressor or a power strip device problem. Give the DVR at least 5 minutes to boot up. Allow it to do its own thing, and it should come on by itself. You will hear a spinning sound coming off it, which is normal. Within 5 minutes you should see a message on your tv screen. A good indicator that the receiver is on, are lights on it. Orange for mode, Green for TV1 And blue for TV2. You should have at least the orange light on, when the DVR on. Do a reset if it will not power on after 5 minutes, unplug the DISH receiver for 10 seconds and plug back in. Please have TV1 on during the whole process. Let me know if this help. Have a great day.

R15 DVR locked in record

2 months ago my R15-500 stopped working. The "Record"(yellow) light was dim on the front of the DVR and a lightly audible clicking noise could be heard from inside the DVR. So I searched the internet and found this FIXYA site. I disassembled the DVR as instructed and removed the power board. Sure enough the Capacitors were bulging on top. I replaced all of the capacitors on the power supply output, I think 6 altogether. I reassembled the unit and it worked great.

Problem with DISH DVR 625

You can accomplish this by either going to the specific TV and selecting the record option at the time the program is about to come on or you can press menu-8-5 and change the record preferences. You can either set the DVR to record programs to the TV2 location by default or TV1 by enabling the record plus feature. In dual mode without record plus enabled all programs you select to record default to the tuner you are viewing e,g, if watching tv1 and selecting to record a program in the future it will record to the tv1 location. In single mode all recordings default to tv2 so you can continue to watch live tv from tv1. I hope this answers your question and thanks for using Fix Ya. Let me know if I can further assist you.

How do i choose tv1 or tv2 on my DVR?

Your recording will record onto your one DVR box, for playback on either tv. On many satelite boxes you have to search for the program you want by entering the name. Then select the program and select to record the future broadcast.

Problem with recording playback

i would suggest unplugging the receiver from the power outlet for about 10 seconds and then plugging it back in, do not turn receiver back on, it should come up on its own after a few minutes, if it doesnt wait another minute and then press power, it will reacquire signal and then you can try again. is this issue only effecting tv1???
