Ok the disk check can be turned off in the bios setup
when you turn it it it says something to the effect like
"Press Del to enter setup"

what ever key it ask you to press press it..

in the setup change the first bioot device to HD0 or hard drive
Change the Floppy seek to off..

as per the screen saver,,
Try changing the screen saver to another one
If that fails turn the screen saver off

If that fails try a system restore to a date that this problem was not occuring..

IF THAT AS WELL FAILS THEN IT COULD BE HARDWARE RELATED

eighter memory or processor..

Full format to restore setings

Either press the function key (often F11) that triggers system restore upon bootup (this is true if you have a prebuilt system or a notebook) or do a full format and reinstall from your operating system disk. To do that you need to set the BIOS/EFI to boot from that disk, or just press the function key that pops up the boot device selection if your computer allows that, then follow the onscreen instruction to complete the process

Windows 7 won't bootup, has error recovery. it loads files then nothing. screen is black.

Had that problem a few times myself.
Only way I could fix was to restore back to factory condition.
As you boot, watch bottom of screen closely.
depending on system, Should need to press F2, F10, possibly F12, might even be Del.
Most likely you didn't get restore disk, or have made one.
If you do, insert disk before boot up. System should boot to DvD.
Don't forget once restored to update.
Hope this helps

During start up, screen goes grey "Startup Repair is checking system for problems.." then it searches for problems for for over 1/2 hour with no solution,

Most likely the machine is looking for drivers for devices. If you are connected the internet, it is probably searching there until it times out. If you still have your motherboard installation disk, put it in the drive and boot from there. This should install any missing drivers. Press F12 during bootup to acess boot options.

Recklessly includes a password-protected screen saver (intended for retail-store use) on all systems; if you install the screen saver, assign a password, and then forget that password, you'll be locked out...

THAT IS FROM SCREEN SAVER WHAT YOU WILL DO ID THIS:
Restart your system and it will boot to window from there, you will right click the desktop and click on properties you will find the wallpaper and the screen saver from there click on the screen saver then on the advance setup you will manipulate the setup back by putting OFF the screen saver and thats bye bye to the problem ok

Getting out of the initial set up

First try to Boot to Last Known Good Configuration.. do this by pressing F8 upon bootup...look at the prompt screen for the option mentioned OR

Attempt to boot up in Safe Mode....
Do This by pressing F8 Upon bootup, it will take you to a black Safe Mode Options screen... once there choose the first option.. boot into Safe Mode Only.. If you are able to boot into windows that way,, you can then check for problems... Like checking the device manager for errors, Check the Status of your hard drive.. etc.

Screen goes blank

My best guess is that it's the screen or the screen sensor try playing with the angle of the screen. If it displays at a particular angle its the sensor if not its the screen, or motherboard. Either way if you pay Dell to fix it, it's like buying a new laptop.
