Refrigerator issue with the starter

Well the other day i had this funny burning smell in the house after some searching , i found it to be the starter for the compressor , question is im not sure what cause it , if its the compressor itself or just a bad starter, the refrigerator is about 6 years old and never had any problem previous.

Sometimes when these relay fail (and they all do) they fail shorted (letting current flow from L1 to N) not open (not letting any current flow) and they may arc so bad that they destroy the compressor terminals. If the terminals arent destoyed then ohm out the compressor, make sure it isnt grounded and then replace the starter.

I have a silantair compressor. It is giving out burning smell recently. What should i do?

Not familiar with that brand but each compressor I ever saw had a compressor relay. The relay allows for power to multiple windings inside the compressor and then it drops out power to start windings which saves energy and prevent compressor overheating. overtime the relays disintegrate inside. If it sound like a salt shaker inside it or appears to be charred outside it is on the way out and there is yore funny electrical smell. I have service manuals for various american models at appliancejunkgoogledrive.

The unit works as of right now...but there is a smell of something burning

Quite often, if you smell like a plastic burning smell, one of the capacitors is faulty, and should be checked immediately. Quite often the compressor start capacitor, will get hot and start to melt. Have it checked by qualified technician or electrician, as they are dangerous and can give a fatal shock if not experienced with handling them, even when power is shut off. $20-$30 part, and 1/2hr. labor should take care of it. The cover on roof unit, has to be removed to access the capacitors, so watch for bees, wasps, when you do so. Make sure power is off at breaker panel.

Describe your Kenmore 53652 / 53654 / 53659 Side by Side Refrigerator Unit is not cooling. Stopped working after power outage

Kenmore Coldspot 106.53652300
I just fixed my neighbors fridge that suffered from a power surge. She explained that she smelt a burning smell in the kitchen and the next day the fridge and freezer were not cold. Of course she did not share the burnt smell part until after I discovered the starter relay and the capacitor were burnt on the compressor. She purchased the new starter kit and capacitor from a local supply company and while installing them I discovered the compressor fan was not running which also meant the compressor was not getting any power. I removed the screws that held the control panel on the fridge side (right side) and inspected the circuit board which I discovered a burnt trace on the board for the compressor control relay. I fixed the board by soldering a piece of solid core wire across it and it works great!
Make sure you shop around for your parts. The BIG local supplier here in Tulsa wanted $65 for the starter kit and $65 for the capacitor. We shopped around and found another supplier in Tulsa that sold them for $25 each and they were FSP parts!

The fan comes on, but air compressor wants to start but won't. Funny smell. Thanks Mike

It is likely the capacitor is faulty, when they go they usually heat up and burn hence the bad smell. If your unable to test the capacitor you can try replacing it with new. The capacitor at the compressor should state its value in micro farrads and a rating in voltage.

Brunt smell and sweating

Seems like your blower motor is burning up. Its the motor that blows cool air across the refrigeration coil. If it is a whole house ac unit, probably your main blower motor for the furnace. If you are getting sweat, that means the compressor is compressing the refrigerant, and you should not smell anything from the outdoor unit, only from the furnace. Hope this helps.
