Dim monitor When I turn on the laptop, the screen is dim and I could hardly see things on it, but when I connect it to the power point projector, the result on the projected image is good. How can I make the screen brighter so I can see what I am doing?

You can press the Blue FN key and the Arrow up button at the same time, You can also open your Display properties by right clicking on your desktop and click properties and then the settings tab after settings tab click advanced lower right of display properties then your color tab there should be a brightness option there that will let you adjust many other functions that will help you get the best picture you can, Hope that help you out let me know please if not we can figure out another way. Thanks bear001

How to connect wonderwall projector to computer?

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. How do I connect the laptop to the projector using Power Point.

Connect the data projector to the video port on the laptop. Then power up the data projector and then the laptop, the video data will automatically be diverted to the data projector.
If you want to see the Windows image on your laptop screen as well you need to press and hold down the FN key plus one of the function keys on you laptop which has a screen symbol. Pressing this key will toggle between the laptop screen, data projector or both laptop screen plus data projector.
You can open Power Point and select your presentation as you would normally.

I have a compaq paserio notebook and when I boot up the computer, either I get a blank screen or I get a very faded image that I can't hardly see so I can't log on. Most of the time I just get a blank...

Have you checked the brightness options for the screen using the HP function keys? Fn +F7 or Fn+F8 should adjust the brightness of the screen for that C306 model laptop. If adjusting the brightness has no response then try the next steps.

What happens if you turn the computer off, plug it into an external monitor or projector, and then turn the computer back on? If the video displays correctly on a computer monitor or projector, but it stays dim on the LCD screen of the laptop, then the laptop LCD Screen Back-light or inverter is probably going out. You'll need to contact HP for a replacement part or take the laptop to a certified repair center.

The display on my ibm thinkpad r40 is black after initial dim ibm screen. External monitor works fine though. This happened immediately after I used my ibm with a projector this morning? Fn F7 does not...

The problem youve discribed does seem to point to your back light has failed on the laptops lcd display, i dont know exactly how this would accure just using a projector though, go into bios again and try loading factory settings.

This problem could also be the inverter if you cant make out even a slight image on the screen.

let me know what happens. thanks

Will not turn on? Battery is charged and power adapter on. No response at all?

This can be a few things first see if the fans and hard drive are spinning. If neither is it normally means the motherboard has failed and needs to be replaced.

After that if both are on and spinning shine a flashlight on the screen. If you see a dim image of the desktop it means the back light had died and needs to be replaced.

If the image is not dim and both are on try connecting an external monitor to the laptop. If you don't see anything on the external monitor either it means the laptops video card has failed and needs to be replaced. However if you do see an image on the screen it means either the laptops LCD cable or the LCD itself needs to be replaced.

I have a problem with displaying power point presentation

Hello, Chris.

I'm not certain if this was already tried, but here goes:

If you look at you keyboard function (F) keys, you'll see a symbol or the words "CRT/LCD". On my laptop, it is F8, but could be different on yours.

When you connect an external screen to your laptop, if the laptop information doesn't show on the external screen, press your Fn key plus that function key with the symbol or words.

Normally, when you press once, twice and three times, you toggle through various options: your laptop screen only, your external screen only and both screens.

Hope this helps.

How to connect to external monitor?

You need to determine the fault first.
Can you determine exactly where the boom came from (the adapter or laptop)?
When you turn on your laptop does the LED lights indicating that there is power to the laptop and you can hear the hard drive spinning as well as the fan?
Do you know the power adapter is OK (you can test it with a multimeter)?
If the laptop is dead then the external monitor is of no use.

The laptop normally has a blue video output connector, usually on the back edge of the laptop where you can connect an external monitor or a data projector. When a monitor or projector is powered up first and then the laptop the display goes to the external video first. You can switch between the laptop screen and external video by clicking the blue Fn + F4 function keys.

LCD projector no signal message

Usually means that the computer is not sending a signal out the the projector via the monitor cable. Most Windows based laptop computers allow you to connect to a second monitor by pressing the Fn + F7 or F8 key, once to allow just the projector, twice to allow both the projector and laptop screen and three times back to only the laptop.
