Washer will not leave the drain cycle

I've cleaned out the drain trap & cleared the drain hoses. I have unplugged the washer, opened the door, done everything the manual says. The water pump works, I poured water into the washer are I cleared the trap, and the pump drained the tub. The problem is the washer will not leave the spin/drain cycle. Pump runs for about 4 minutes then displays the F21 error code.

We use HE detergent. I've tried everything in the owners manual plus all of the items in the tech manual in the front panel of the washer. Pump is working. Hoses are clear & unobstructed. It will pump water out if I pour water into the tub. Shuts down at 4 minutes and displays F21. Seems like a sensor is bad. Pump thinks there is still water in the tub, but tub is empty.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display then

  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
  • Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
  • If the above does not correct the problem, replace the pump.

It's because of a Long Drain condition. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes, the water valves are turned off the code is flashed.
But Note: After 4 minutes the "Sud" error is usually displayed, then 4 minutes later the error code is displayed.

Okay try running the washer through a cycle with NO detergent in it. See if that doesn't solve the problem. Just let it run completely without the detergent or clothes in it. That most likely will solve the problem.

My LG Tromm washer does not drain all of the time. When is doesn't drain the water smells really bad. If I use a higher spin cycle setting it will usually drain, but that is beginning to not work either....

One thing LG did was install a manual drain hose located in the bottom left corner where the lint trap is, you can pull out the small hose and drain the machine that way, also, leave the door open on the washer slightly, this will allow the unit to dry better and eliminate odor, another cheap cleaning and odor elimination, pour 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach into the drum (with out clothes) put it on a short was cycle, the bleach should clean any bacterial growth; make sure to only due a white wash following this procedure to make sure that any possible bleach remaining dosen't effect color clothers....

I have a Whirlpool Washer, Duet, 3 years old. I have had the washer stop withour being finished with the cycle. None of the controls would start it, the door was locked, and the error showed an F 21...

The F21 error code indicates a long drain time on this type of washer. The door will not unlock if the washer control detects that water is still in the tub. To manually unlock the washer door, take these steps:

  1. Unplug the washer to completely disconnect electrical power.
  2. Remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image below.
  3. Carefully reach up through the bottom opening and pull the release tab on the bottom of the door lock assembly until it clicks. NOTE: Internal metal edges in the washer can be sharp. Protective gloves are recommended for this procedure.
By pulling the manual release tab on the door lock assembly, you should be able to get the washer door open.

After opening the door and removing the clothes, I recommend emptying any remaining water in the tub with a wet/dry vacuum (or bail it out). Since you already have the bottom front service panel off and the washer unplugged, you can arrange shallow pans and towels to catch any remaining water and pull the filter out and clean it You may find a clog in this area that is preventing your washer from draining properly. Clear any clog or debris from this area and reassemble the washer. Check your drain hose for a kink or clog. Check the washer house drain for a clog or restriction. Test the washer to see if it will drain properly.

Here is a video to show you how it is done.

hi Luis.
If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing.
If the washer won't drain the pump belt might have broken or might have worn out. Check the belt and replace if it shows signs of excessive wear.
Drain Pump
If the washer won't drain water the drain pump might be defective. It's also common for a small sock or other article of clothing to get caught in the drain pump or in the drain hose. Check both for an obstruction before replacing the pump.
Other Causes and Conditions
Clogged Pump or Hose
If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing. Keep in mind that any water in the washer will pour out of the hoses when removed.
Drive Belt
If the washer won't drain, should check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't drain properly, if at all.
Lid Switch Assembly
If the washer won't drain the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly
If the washer won't drain the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
Drain Hose
If the washer won't drain water check the drain hose. Be sure the hose did not get kinked behind the washer. Also, remove the hose from the pump and check it for obstructions.
Coin Trap
If the washer won't drain the coin trap may be clogged. This washer is equipped with a device near the water pump called a coin trap. The purpose of this device is to trap any foreign materials that make their way down the drain. Normally, the coin trap can be accessed through an access panel. It is designed with the homeowner in mind and is normally easy to clean out.

Unplug the washer. Then plug it back in and press the button that turns it off. This should unlock the door. Same thing happened on mine and there was a kink in the drain hose. Once I unkinked the hose, unplugged it, plugged it back in, turned it off, then I was able to run a drain & spin cycle to get the water out of the load that was in the washer. I then ran a full wash cycle (they'd gotten stuck in the first drain & spin cycle of a wash) and everything seems to be fine now.

Hello,

If your washer is indeed a WFL2066, than the not spinning is directly relatedto the unit not draining.

These machines by design cannot spin if the drain is inadequate.

Here is the first step in resolving the problem, you need to access the drainpump/filter to clean it.

To reach the filter and clean it...

**Unplug the washer from the dryer or wall, or turn off the 30amp breakerat the home service panel...safety first**

1) Open the small square plastic door at the right bottom of thewasher.

2) Via the small hose drain any access water from the pump...this is where awet/dry shop-vac comes in handy, or a shallow pan with a few towels works aswell.

3) Then turn the pump insert/button trap counter clock-wise and pull out.Clean the trap out thoroughly running it under hot water and mild soap or yourwasher detergent and inspect inside the pump for any other foreignobjects/obstructions.

4) Re-install the lint trap insuring it is good and snug/tight. Beforeclosing up the small access door, run a short rinse spin cycle to check forleaks.
Thanks

I hear water in the washer drum & smells. How do I get that water out?

Residual water in the drum is NORMAL. Since the drain pump and drain lines are at the lowest point of the drainage system, gravity will ALWAYS keep some water in the lines and pump. However, if you have water visibly present in the wash basket, then you may have a blockage in the drain system somewhere. Most often, the drain pump can become clogged with debris over time and need to cleaned out. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574284-checking_the_drain_pump_on_a_front_loade

Debris in the drain pump and/or drain lines can contribute to foul odors being present in the washer. In addition, NOT leaving the door open between washes can cause the tub to become stagnant. The manufacturer recommends leaving the door OPEN between washes to allow the tub to air out and to prevent mold and mildew from forming. The following link can give you some pointers on things to do to get rid of odors and prevent them from coming back:

If you have any questions about these procedures, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

I cannot open the washer door---the cycle if off. The machine is full of clothes. HELP

Hi, welcome to fixya. If your washer is indeed a WFL2060, this is how to first get any water out which may prevent the door from opening and failing draining it manually allowing the door to open, how to open it manually. **Unplug the washer from the dryer or wall, or turn off the 30amp breaker at the home service panel...safety first** 1) Open the small square plastic door at the right bottom of the washer. You will see a small red loop with a string. That is for manually opening the door if you pull it...but you'll want to drain the water out first, so... 2) Via the small hose drain any access water from the pump...this is where a wet/dry shop-vac comes in handy, or a shallow pan with a few towels works as well. 3) Then turn the pump insert/button trap counter clock-wise and pull out. Clean the trap out thoroughly running it under hot water and mild soap or your washer detergent and inspect inside the pump for any other foreign objects/obstructions. 4) Re-install the lint trap insuring it is good and snug/tight. Before closing up the small access door, run a short rinse spin cycle to check for leaks. Let me know how you make out, or if you require further assistance. Thank you for visiting "fixya", please take a moment to rate the info provided for you here. Good luck. macmarkus :)

Kenmore HE2 does not drain after first load.

  1. Unplug the washer to completely disconnect electrical power.
  2. Remove the bottom front service panel.
Since you already have the bottom front service panel off and the washer unplugged, you can arrange shallow pans and towels to catch any remaining water and pull the large item filter out of the drain pump assembly as shown in the second image below. You may find a clog in this area that is preventing your washer from draining properly. Clear any clog or debris from this area and reassemble the washer. Check your drain hose for a kink or clog. Check the washer house drain for a clog or restriction. Test the washer to see if it will drain properly.

Put a cup of powdered dishwashing detergent in the barrel ie. Sunlight or Palmolive. Place 1 cup of bleach in the soap dispenser. Run on a quick cycle with HOT/HOT and run complete cycle. This does help and don't forget to clean the filter on the lower part of the unit.
