Paper Jam Errors

I am getting the message "Paper Jam Reg1" and "Open Reg Cover". Just before this happened, four sheets fed at once and all caught in Reg1. I was able to remove them intact although it took quite a pull. I am using the letter tray for cardstock, and I normally get away with it, if I am willing to put up with having a false jam signal after nearly every sheet. I can't use the MFU because it is totally hosed and makes a very loud racket if I send something through it.

My theory is that when the four sheets of paper jammed in Reg1, it tripped certain sensors that didn't reset or were damaged.

I have tried power off/wait a few minutes/power on, but it didn't solve the problem.

I have exact same problem. My wife loaded a peice of cardboard at the bottom of a stack of photo paper. It jamed it and she pulled it very forcefully to remove.

I've got this problem when I pulled out some stuck card stock. A plastic piece broke off for me though. Must be what hits the microswitch. It's a rod about 3" long. On one end is a hook about an inch long, and on the other end is what I'll try to describe as a segment of a circle 1" long, by about 3/8" wide . Too bad I can't post a photo. Got the thing partially apart, but haven't found where this goes yet.

Have you tried cleaning the paper feed roller(s)? Either soap & water OR isopropyl alchohol with a cotton ball will do, just make sure the rollers are dry before trying to print again, otherwise damage to imaging unit (drum/toner unit) could occurr. If the printer doesn't feed in the first place, the printer thinks it has a jammed paper, thus opening paper tray and front cover resets misfeed/ jam condition. Let me know your progress....Tim

Explanation of the paper jam message

A 241.09 Paper Jam message indicates that the printer thinks a sheet of paper has jammed at the front of the printer. The jammed sheet of paper is most likely to be found in one of the paper trays or under the toner cartridge.
NOTE: If you select Show areas on the operator panel, you can view one or more images to help you locate and clear the jam.

    Clearing the jam
To resolve the paper jam message, you must first clear the entire paper path. To access the jam area, you will need to open one or more of the paper trays. Follow the steps in the table below to help you locate and clear the jam.
Step Action Image 1 Open the printer paper tray (tray 1), and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10222007_1922-enus28872_24109paperjam1_t64x_en_us.gif 2 Open the front cover and remove the toner cartridge. Examine the area inside the printer and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10242007_159-enus28872_24109paperjam5_t64x_en_us.gif 3 If you have a duplex option installed, also remove the duplex access tray and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10302007_1559-enus28860_24x17paperjamduplex_t64x_en_us.gif 4 If you were printing from an optional paper tray, such as tray 2 or tray 3, open any optional trays, starting at the top, and remove any jammed media. Pull the print media either up or down. If it does not pull easily one way, try the other way pattlnk_10222007_1957-enus28872_24109paperjam3_t64x_en_us.gif 5 If you are printing from an optional 2000-sheet feeder, open the front door. Press the elevator button (A) to lower the tray. Remove any partially fed media from the feeder.
NOTE: Make sure the stack of print media is straight and pushed all of the way into the feeder. Incorrectly loaded paper is the most common cause of paper jams from a 2000-sheet feeder option.
    pattlnk_10222007_2110-enus28872_24109paperjam4_t64x_en_us.gif
For a larger image, click here. 6 Finally, reinstall all of the paper trays and press the pattlnk_10222007_2117-select_button.jpg button to try printing again.
NOTE: You may receive a different paper jam message informing you that another sheet of paper is jammed elsewhere in the printer. If this occurs, the error code will indicate the location. Click here for a diagram showing the error code locations. The paper path will vary, depending on the paper source and number of paper feed options installed.
Remove any jammed sheets of paper you find and try printing again.

    Close reg cover

After researching the error online, I solved my problem by simply pushing the back cover of the unit closed; I didn't even know it had come open after I removed my jam.

    Hope this helps!

    Paper jam error message

I had the same problem, and found that the sheet feeder mechanism was intermittent. The problem seems to be that the lubricating grease inside the mechanism.(white nylon round thing with gears on it) becomes too slippery with age, and stops picking up the activating arm which allows the cam unit to move to kick the top sheet of paper into the rubber feed wheel.
The repair was extremely difficult because it involved taking most of the printer apart to get to the ink pump/sheet feeder mechanism.(white nylon round thing with gears on it). And then I tried quite a few lubricants (including no lubricant at all) but none of these worked reliably. Finally I tried a dab of automotive wheel bearing grease (it feels like glue), and this worked perfectly. I have had no more paper jam errors and no miss-feeds in about 7months of everyday use.
