I tried everything suggested to no avail. I need to test the voltage but I don't have the equipment to do that kind of testing.

I have the same problem. There is a light on the board which tells me it is getting power, bu tthere is not fan movement or post beeps. I have taken everything out, the CMOS batt,CPU,RAM,cards, and reset them, but still have the same problem. Please let me know if there is anything else that can be done.
    Thanks

Your problem seems to be what Iam currently experiencing. Did take it to the Geeks at the local Best buy and was told that the problem is the motherboard. Currently have it at a second shop for another opinion. Still waiting for their response. It only been over there for two days. Will advise what they find.

I removed all cards, disks, CDs, processor and even the battery. I let everything set for 24 hours, put it back together and I still had the same problem.

  • bflo_00 Sep 28, 2008

Geeze, after working on hardware for 27 years i love the short circut dummie. Anyway yes, it's the motherboard / yes the green light will still come on on that model and quite a few other models. Dont worry about repairing / i.e. removing components on the motherboard, it's a fruitless endevor but a great way to waste time. A motherboard for that model will cost about 100-150 bucks / easy replacement. It's actually rare for both the power supply and mother board to go out on a tower/mini tower type system. Older laptops had that type of prob. Those emachines were **** for the mostet part. On the other hand Gateway has really gone up in quality and i have been quite impressed with them in the last few years...

Your Mboard has become short circuit and need to be reset all parts by removing and clearing the CMOS.

Reset your Mboard, remove the all pheriperals like the processors and other plug in cards, remove the power cable from the powersuuply to the Mboard and then reset the CMOS. put in the again the hardware parts to the motherboard and your done.

I've got this same machine with the same problem. Changing the power supply did nothing. The motherboard still gets power, but the power button does nothing. Changed the power button, no good. Tried shorting the power switch pins, no good. The motherboard is bad... but then again, it's a $300 computer, what did you expect?

If the red light comes on and stays on on your mobo it is probably done; the green light just means the mobo is receiving power.

Posted on Oct 29, 2008

The board is fried. i have the same problem. that light means absolutely nothing, it is not uncommon for the power supply to go and take the mother board along with it. . .

You want C - Front Panel

The plastic front of your computer is the Front Panel
Cables (Wires) coming from the Front Panel go to the Front Panel header on the motherboard

Connecting the Front Panel is shown on Page 32

Processor to the Top, Ram Memory slots to the Right, the Front Panel header is at the Bottom Right. It is right along the bottom edge of the motherboard.

There are 4 pins across the Top
There are 5 pins across the Bottom
The Pins are numbered.

Starting on the Left side of the motherboard going towards the Right,
the Top row of pins are numbered 2, 4, 6, and 8

EMachines T3828 won't turn on. Any way to determine whether problem is power supply? thx!

Had the same problem and ended up replacing the PSU. Try re-seating the memory and video card first but if your not getting any power on beep codes then it is likely that the PSU and possibly the motherboard have failed (google emachines power supply failure).
Try a new PSU, it worked for me and was a fairly cheap fix if nothing else works.

I have an emachine T3828, I have recently reformated my hard drive, And now missing Audio Drivers. I have tried going through Device Manager and doing "Update Drivers", also have downloaded all I can from...

This isn't a sound issue this is a Virtual IRQ issue. Emachines are virtual machines. That means that all of the hardware is emulated by the software through the motherboard. The PCI Simple Controller is the Emulation IRQ. You need to install your motherboard's chipset drivers again. Since Emachines are emulated hardware nearly everything is tied into something else, often the time its things not related to each other. Download http://www.soft32.com/download_182376.html which is a driver for the PCI Simple Com and see if that helps.

Emachine T3828 power switch connection to motherboard

The "Ultra Helpful Instructions" that Emachines provide (here: http://downloads.emachines.com/userguides/8511279_eM_NG3_chassis_HW_ref_en.pdf) state that when replacing the system board, "18. Attach all cables to new system board", but fails to say where that would be for each cable.

The site below says it's a genuine Intel board in there, so, congrats on that. http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket478/D845GVSR.shtml

And with that, the link to the manual:
ftp://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D845GVSR/SR_English.pdf

You're looking for the info on page 32, I believe.

See if that fixes it up. If not, post back.
