Re: Brother Advantage

You mean you can't fax out or you can't get a fax because the line is always busy. I assume you already know it doesn't receive it only sends so we'll go from there. This model seems to have quite a few problems with the fax and it is usually in either the selector the processor or a switch. Make sure all your covers are closed tight if they are it's not the switch but some other problem. Your probably better off getting a new one because the repairs can be fairly expensive from $50 to $90.00 and I have found this model on the net for around $79.99. Hope this helps.

Brother mfc-420cn - fx problem

From the manual for your Brother model: To select or change your Receive mode 1. If it is not illuminated in green, press "Fax" (picture of Fax button) 2. Press - "Menu/Set, 0, 1." 3. Press - (up arrow) or (down arrow) to select "Fax Only". 4. Press - "Stop/Exit." This is just to select the "Fax Only" option, which is what you need - having a phone line strictly for the fax machine. There are 4 options on that setting, and the manual explains them in more detail. You can also set the "Ring Delay" for the fax by pressing "Menu/Set, 2, 1, 1." The options shown are "0, 1, 2, 3, or 4". It's very likely that you want to select an option OTHER than "0". This Brother manual for your model can be found at this URL: --> Hope this helps! Brother 7340 not sending or receiving faxes line busy

sounds like the modem on your printer has failed depending on how old it is most likely it would be cheaper to buy a new printer

My Brother MFC7340 Fax Machine will not send faxes it has a busy signal always and a busy signal when someone tries to fax me.

You need to reset the memory, since previously you have dialed some number, which is not able to connect. So restart the printer. Unplug the printer for 10 minutes and plug back the power to the printer.

Hope this helps.

Fax is always busy when sending, have the line into the phone line port and into the telephone jack, fax scans and dials and even redials but it never go through, prints out receipt that says busy/no...

Has it always done this, or did Fax once work? Sadly, Windows XP Fax has many shortcomings, not the least of which is that it won't work with many modems still in common use. Modem incompatibility is not apparent during installation or the initial setup. It only becomes apparent when you try to send or receive a fax. The Fax Service will dial or will answer an incoming fax but then fail with any of a number of unhelpful error messages such as "Line is busy," "There is no answer," or "Reception error." There will be nothing in Event Viewer to give a clue as to where the problem might lie.

These errors have been nearly impossible to track down. To do so requires enabling both PSS and debug logging of fax transmissions, both of which require fairly extensive registry changes. For the time being, the best advice is to attempt to use XP Fax only if you have a modem that is listed on the Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List and using the latest drivers.

Hope helps.

When sending a fax I keep getting back a result "BUSY". I've tried a couple different numbers and always get the same thing. Faxes are coming in just fine.

The only thing that could stop you from sending a fax or not get a dial tone, would be the connection to the phone line. Make sure the telephone wire is plugged into the line jack and not ext jack of the machine, and should go straight to the wall, without splitters or extensions.

If you still cannot send a fax, try another wire or jack

Brother mfc-420-cn all faxes are always busy

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
