When systems boots it wants password. the default was 000000 but somehow it got changed. Is there a way to reset it. Acer says I need to take it to service center.

As this laptop could also be stolen I would suggest you go to a service center. The other way is to open it up and locate the bios battery and disconnect it for 30 minutes or so.
