Question about Toshiba 40H80 40" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Blown bulb I have a 3 year old 46 in and suddenly it decided to keep switching itself on and off with no picture although sound was maintained. Sent it for repair and told a bulb had imploded inside and that a new one would cost £400 + Vat and then if it was fitted, they couldn't guarantee that it hadn't taken something else out. I am in a dilemma, do I throw about £500 at it and risk it still not working or do I just ditch it and get a new HD LCD. I am recently widowed at a very young age - my kids are driving me cray as they have no tv and have very little money to play with. Sorry it sounds lame, but any knowledgable advice would be appreciated.

Re: Blown bulb

I would look at it this way, what other problems does this tv have, the main one that comes to mind is convergence amp ic's which is about 400 dollars USA this is a very common repair with this set.
now would you stick 900 towards this tv thats 4 years old?
if your looking for a new tv google that make and model to see if anyone has problems with that.

Sony 50 inch KDF E50A12U switched itself off!

Does the on/off light flash green and red or just green. Is the light to the left of the on/off light on (this means bulb has definately blown)

Probable problem is that your lamp has blown. This can replaced quite easily, but costs about £100. Search google for xl-2400, there is also a video on youtube showing how to replace bulb.

You should replace it the same way the old one came out.Make sure the lamp compartment door is closed or the TV will not come on.

TV turns itself off after a few seconds, no picture at all

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

Sound but no picture on my HD-52725 (slightly over 1 yr old). The TV menu DOES come up but other than that, it's just a blank screen. I replaced the lamp about 3 weeks ago. It was working fine yesterday...

The new bulb that went bad I purchased for less than $130.00 from . When I called them they immediatly sent me a new bulb free. Their number is 1-619-710-2637. A very good coumpany to do business with. They are also considering selling ballast for dlp TV's for around $200.00. The TV repair place that I have been going to told me that maybe the ballast made the bulb go out and it would cost between $600.00 and 800.00 to have them fix it. My TV is a Mitsubishi WD52725. dodger1
