It could be that for some reason it is trying to grab a drive letter that is already being used. As administrator, right click on "My Computer" > Manage > Disk Management. Change the drive letter if needed by choosing "Edit". (You should first check your iomega by connecting it to another computer to make sure it is working properly.) Good luck.

Computer doesn't see iomega

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
if this fails to fix the problem

you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap
hope this helps you

Hi I own a Samsung G3 Station External Hard Drive 2T. It was working completly fine, however just recently its screwed up. I have tried using it on all my computers and laptops.. but for some reason...

Your external drive may not be coming up due to a defected usb adapter, this might also explain why your computer fails to recognize the device. Try getting a new adapter and see if that works

My iomega hard drive worked fine before, but now won't show on My Computer or Autoplay. Help, please?!

First check whether your computer can see the external drive:
1. Right click My Computer and select Properties
2. Click on Device Manager
3. Expand Disk Drives by clicking the arrow on the left side of it.
Is the IOmega in the list of the disk drives?

If it is, then it is either:
1. The drive is faulty and the ID is from the IOmega controller
2. The drive is ok but severe bad sectors or other failing components prevent the drive to mount.

Testing the External Drive.
Listen closely to the if it sounds like it's spinning or it's doing something.
1. Clicking sound - The hard drive inside the Iomega caddy is faulty, either the pcb or heads, or both
2. Scraping sound - There is a platter damage on the drive. Recovery not possible.
3. No sound at all - Problem with either drive's pcb or the Iomega controller.

If your drive behaves like one above, I suggest you send your hard drive to data recovery companies.

I have a iomega external 600gb external hard drive, and my computer will not work or load unless this is switched on ? it never use to do this, but now the dam thing has taken over all my computer help...

Hi,

Assuming this is a windows machine it's likely one of two things, either the machine was re-installed/repaired while the drive was attached and the boot sector may have been moved to the external drive by accident. The other is that the Virtual memory file may have been moved to the external drive which would prevent windows from loading.

If you have repaired the machine lately you may need to re-repair it with the drive detached in order to solve the problem. If not right click on my computer, select properties. When the new window opens select advanced then click the settings button in the performance section. Again select the advanced tab, Click the change button on the Virtual Memory section and remove any reference to memory being used on the external drive. If it is the only drive listed as using memory, be sure to add at least 2GB(2048MB) to the C drive first.

Let me know how you make out,

Chris

Vista stops recognizing external hard drive

This doesn't sound like an OS issue. This appears to be more an issue of the connection to the hard drive. The USB cable likely isn't the culprit, nor the laptop USB inputs. If the drive was ever dropped or the cable gets removed and reattached often to the actual enclosure, you might be looking at a bad port on the enclosure. This isnt a lost cause. You can always buy a hard drive enclosure from newegg and move the drive from the IOMEGA to the new enclosure. You can get a new enclosure for $15. Just because the USB port is bad, it doesnt mean the data is gone and the hard drive cant be used.

MY IOMEGA HDD 80GB KEEPS CLICKING AND NOT CONNECTING TO THE PC. wHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

There can be several causes for the clicking noise. Your disk drive may not be getting enough power or the drive may have failed. If you have an external power supply for the drive, make sure it is connected to power and it didn't fall out of the outlet. If you can try another USB port on your (or another) computer, try it. If the drive fails to mount on another computer with the disk's power supply connected to power, the power supply for the disk or the disk itself may have failed. If you have an identical power supply from an identical drive, you can see if that isolates the problem. Please post back with results of your tests.

External drive wont mount

Hi,

Try doing flea power & the power cycle.

1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.

And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.

Restart the system & check.

2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.

Restart the system.

If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :

Check this before you try to edit the registry values.

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/profiles.1.html

Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.

HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR

And delete all references to the external hard drive.

And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.

After restarting the system, the drive shold be detected & configured automatically by the computer.
