Question about Tascam CD-450 CD Player

1 Answer

Tascam CD-450 Unit has started skipping through CDs, both store-bought and CD-Rs. I've cleaned the lens with alchohol a few times which seems to help for a day or so before the skipping starts again.

My answer here only concerns if you're trying to play burned audio CDs. Burn your audio CDs at the lowest speed (1). Try the JVC/Taiyo Yuden brand.

Its time to replace the optical unit ( lens ) of the CD player. Brace yourself the unit on some of those old players can cost more than a new DVD player.

My cd player skips

there are a few options
maybe your cd player is on an unstable surface and so the cd skips from vibrations or movements so you will need to put it on a stable surface free from movement or rumbles so that the cd player can read the cds without any interference.
Also maybe your lens is dirty or your cds are dirty or scratched, in which case her's what you can try:

1) buy a cd lens cleaning kit from a music shop or electronics store and clean the lens
2) but if the cd player is quite old then there may be a build up of dust and dirt inside so you will need to get it cleaned professionally

If the cds are dirty then clean using a soft cloth from the inside to the outside edge in a straight line

if the cds are scratched then buy new cds and treat them with respect. Make sure you don't put grubby fingers on the surface and try to handle them by just putting your finger through the middle hole and the outside edge with clean hands. and remember to put them back in the case and not leave them on the side or on the floor or stacked in piles

good luck

yes here is a simple easy way to get them to stop skipping, stick them in the freezer portion of your fridge, only if the cds have scratches on them, even the smallest scratch can cause a perfectly working cd player to make the cd skip, stick the cd in the freezer for about 15 or 20 mins and pull it out and play it, i have used this method for a lot of my video games as well and have never had to buy any "cd player cleaner cds" i hope this helps

CDs skip on normal playback

Hi, the most probable cause for this is the lasers light output falling off as it ages. Sometimes you can temporarly improve this by cleaning the laser lens with some alcohol. However the only real solution is to replace the laser.

If you are confident taking stuff apart you may be able to do this yourself. Almost all modern laser assemblies come fully calibrated so all you need to do is take the old on out and fit the new one.

The lasers often have the part number on the side of them. You can get spares from CPC in the UK. But a search for the part number should find you a spares supplier wherever you are.

Get a cd lens cleaner. and clean the lens. This is a CD with a small brush on one of the tracks. Usually this will solve your problem.

If you go out and buy a cleaning disc it may help. You should really clean a car cd player at least ounce or twice every 6 months to get the best sound and play out of the unit. You can pick these disc up at any walmart , kmart , or computer store. Hopefully this can help you out
