Re: L4 error code
L4:The Main PWB sensed a Main Drive Motor MOT1 problem.
The main drive motor has a small white helix gear attached to the drive shaft. Most likely that gear has cracked and is slipping on the shaft. The main drive motor itself may be bad, either way, the motor will most likely need to be replaced.

Power off the machine. Now hold down the 2 and the 5 and power on. Mode 25 screen appears. touch the Soft switch tab in the first box on your left you will put a 3 in the middle box you will put a "1" the third box you will change the "1" to a "0". close out to original screen and power off the machine. wait 10 second power on should get your ready to copy, if the code does come back DO NOT RESET the machine again! It is indicating a problem the code you are resetting is the fuser and it can catch on fire! That will ruin a perfectly good day!!!
The code refers to a toner motor lock error, probably caused by a blocked toner cartridge. If you have a replacement toner cartridge, power the machine off, replace the cartridge & power the machine back on. If the code remains then it may need resetting via the simulation mode. To enter simulation mode, press the following 4 keys in sequence #*C*
then enter 14, press the copy key, then press the CA key. The machine should reboot.
you have to reset the tonner counter and the drum ..and after that try again ...you will also have to empty the memory so to be able to take jobs ..Im not sure about the reseting procedure..but try to shut it down ..than unplug ...plug it back and press the power button and keep it pressed until it beeps ..will be about 15 seconds or so ..If this will not work ..take a look in the manual and see if they explain the exact procedure.. For other similar models you have to open the front door to get it into service mode..than from the service mode with the arrow select reset ..than one by one reset all ...toner counter ..drum ..and waste tank ..after that will do ..
You will most likely need a service technician. This error code indicates an ATDC (Automatic Toner Density Control) sensor failure. This means that the machine is seeing either an undertoned (not enough toner) or an overtoned (too much toner) condition within the imaging unit. This usually requires possible sensor replacement, or most likely a starter (developer) change and recalibration.
This can be caused if you have run the machine low on toner or possible used the wrong toner in the machine.
You can reset by opening then closing the front door on the machine or turning the machine off then on again but most likely the code will return.
That indicates you need to replace the drum cartridge. It's been a
while since I supported those products, but I believe the cartridge is
in the bottom of the device. Make sure you remove the toner cartridge
before tipping it over or you'll have a mess to clean up and won't be
able to remove the drum.
Once you replace the drum, you need to reset
if the machine needs toner you will be able to change paper size & reduction but the machine will not come to ready[green ready light lit]. so if the machine keeps running after you turn it on it needs toner. if you leave it on for lets say 15 min. does it give you an add toner light or an error code?
Is it looking for toner or is there still a jam in it. You may want to try to turn it off and unplug the sorter and turn it back on. If that dose not work turn off again and unplug the adf and turn it on again. If that dose not work if you have unplug the bottom 2 trays. If one of those is causing the problem look deeper in to one of those units. Also, will it showw or flash a error code on the display?
