Dual monitors in XP Pro - HP Pavilion zd7000 laptop & I-Inc CY199 monitor

My HP Laptop has the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 adapter.

I went in to the "display" options in the control panel, and I can see the second monitor (an I-Inc Model CY199) as monitor #2, although Windows sees it as a "plug and play" monitor.

I can get windows to extend to both monitors, however, the image on the CY199 is not quiet as sharp as you'd think it should be.

I have changed the screen resolution to several choices to no avail. I have also gone through the setup of the monitor itself and tried improving sharpness, etc.

The hardware connection off the laptop is your standard VGA connector, the only other choice would be an S-Video connection, which the CY199 doesn't offer. The CY199 does offer DVI-D, but of course my laptop doesn't offer that.

Is this just a symptom of not using a digital conneciton, or is there some software I should download to improve the image?

Just curious.

I couldn't find one. I tried to search the internet several ways, the sites I went to didn't seem to recognize this manufacturer, I-Inc. or HannStar Display Corp.

I went to both the I-Inc and HannStar web sites. I-Inc was mostly in Chinese, so, if it was there, I didn't know it.

Suggestions on where else to look?

Hmmm. I can try that. I looked on Radio Shack and Tiger Direct web sites, they are about $65.

I couldn't find much on it either.. it's a shame, the specs of that monitor are pretty good too.

I'll keep digging around and let you know if I find anything.

VGA tends to be a little 'grainy' as opposed to DVI, or the laptops own display.

Did you try installing the driver / inf file for that particular monitor?

In that case u need a video hub, like : display booster. we call it a vga display booster. this may increase the quality of a picture. because when we attach any display unit, the image appears in two portion. it's gain is to low. to make it more sharp, monitor itself add some colour to that picture. the vga signal is fixed from inside of the monitor with resistance, so u can't make any variations in picture. that's why u guys need that VGA booster.

Setting up dual monitors with NVIDIA 7300 GS Graphics Adapter

so...
your computer don't recognize your nvidia graphic card in PCI Express slot.
you are runing now with computer's integrated graphic card?
if so then you won't have dualview option. in this case it looks for me like you've installed in the wrong way your graphic card.

your NV GeForce 7300 GS has 2 video output?
if yes then you should have the option for 2 monitors on nVIDIA control panel (i have check my nVIDIA GeForce 7600gt and in my case this option is present but is enabled only if i connect the second monitor, so try do so)

you have installed the latest nVIDIA drivers from the official website? http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

check if your video card is corect installed start/run type in " devmgmt.msc ". it will open device manager and under the display adapter tab you should see what video card you use now.

Trouble with running a secondary monitor from my laptop

Hello tonyphats,

How are you trying to use the monitor? Just connecting it to the laptop? I know on most laptops you have to select to use the external monitor it won't just come up. You usually have to hold down the 'Fn' button and then press 'F5' or 'F7' to toggle between - monitor only, monitor and lcd, and lcd only.

If you are trying that, what happens? Does anything show on the screen?

HP/Compaq NX9500 video problem

You are right, it doesn't necessarily sound like a hardware issue. More the likely you are looking at 2 scenarios:

1. You have a corrupt video driver. The Video BIOS on the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5700 ( the video card that you have in the computer) has a default configuration of 640x480 so it doesn't necessary need a driver to function. simply try reinstalling the driver either from the driver recovery cd you received with the system or go to HP.com's driver and downloads page to get the latest. If you can't find it there, this system was also sold as a Pavilion ZD7000 series notebook, try looking under the products downloads.

2. A resolution has been chosen that the monitor doesn't support. This option is unlikely as XP by default will hide unsupported resolutions. Reinstalling the driver would correct this at the same time or right click on the desktop/properties/settings tab/monitor tab and ensure that "hide modes that this monitor can't display" is checked, apply it then try to change the resolution again, if this doesn't work then you're back to step one. Hope this helps!

Nvidia fx 5200

The only time that this can happen is if the driver is not installed correctly, as on install you are normally asked if you want to activate support for dual monitors, so if you havent already, uninstall the card driver, restart and install driver again from the cd or from the NVIDIA website. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html If you have already tried this my apologies.
