Poor reception. Changed the radio with another of the same model. Reception is still poor. Must be an antenna problem. How do I go about replacing the antenna and coax?

1. Disconnect negative side of battery.
2. Wait at least 2-minutes to de-energize the airbag system
3. Remove the glove box from the dash.
4. There will be a coax cable towards the top of the opening. Disconnect the antenna cable lead.
5. Remove the right kick trim panel. There should be no screws just clips.
6. Loosen the rubber grommet insulator from the door hinge area. This is a rubber accordian style guard for wires located between the "A" pillar and the door.
7. Pull the antenna cable out of the dash area to the hinge area.
8. Jack up the front right of the vehicle. Support with Jack Stands. Do not use only the Jack! Use the jack as a back-up in case of Jack Stand failure.
9. Remove the right front tire.
10. Remove the right front wheel housing splash shield. There should be 3-push type retainers and one 10 mm bolt below the bumper.
11. Slide the plastic cover (on the base) up on the antenna mast.
12. Use a open end wrench to unscrew the antenna mast at the base and remove the antenna mast.
13. Remove the plastic cap from the base nut on the base and remove the base nut.
14. From underneath the fender: pull down the antenna base. And pull the cable towards you - out from the door hinge area into the fender area.
Good Luck! Installation is reverse of above.

I have an '02 Kia Sedona. Rasio has been working great for all these years but now various stations have very poor reception. We have checked the antenna and it is secure and looks fine. Any ideas?

Did u set ur radio to "LOCAL"?
If u did, reception will be poor, undo the "local" setting for normal reception!
Hope that might help u out!

Poor radio reception 04 Jetta

It may be more of a design flaw oppose to a actual problem. However, you can purchase signal booster that simply plug between the radio and the cars antenna.

No am reception and poor fm reception - 2004 Kia Sedona

If the antenna is on the front, pop the hood, and locate where the antenna wire connects to the bottom of the antenna and make sure it is connected well. If everything checks out there, you will have to pull the radio from the dash, and look at the back of it. There will be a large black wire by itself connected to the radio. Push it in to make sure its connected as well. That could really be your only problem unless your radio happens to have a fault on the inside which is extremely rare. Hope that helps

Factory radio reception failing

I would suggest installing what is called a filter capacitor. You can get these at most car audio shops or a electrolytic capacitor rated at 16v or higher and around 30uf (the capacity is not very important) you connect it from the Positive to the Negative on the radio. The idea being a capacitor will allow the A/C current (noise) to pass through to ground without going into the radio and this is usually the cause of poor reception.

Another possible cause could be simple a poor quality antenna, some manufacturers are going cheap on the antennas since most people don't listen to the radio anymore. You could try to screw an antenna off of a different car onto the base on this one and see if that clears up the problem, they are a some-what universal thread.
