I am tired of this mfc 440cn not printing in black only mode if the colors are empty, even one. I want to print and work with the black only cartridge. How can I get it to print in that mode only. ie: ...

Yes! There is a way around the problem. On each ink cartridge there is a narrow section that a sensor in the printer reads to decide when the ink is low. Cover that spot with a piece of black electrical tape to fool the sensor and you can keep printing. This page has good pictures showing what to do.

Brother MFC-440CN printer will not see new cartridge

Your print-heads, which take the ink, and spray it onto the paper, have become "clogged". Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle" to try to unclog those jets.

Printing when ink is low

The machine requires all color in order to print anything, even just black and white copies. You need to install a new cyan ink before it will print.

do you use generic ink? If yes, use an original brother ink cart! Because of the additives within the brother ink, cleaning substances will keep the ph clean.
