Sony Cybershot DSC-W90

When I switch on the Camera the message turn power off and on again appears and the lens goes in and out 3 times. I can get into the home menu and view the pics on the memory card but cannot take any pictures. Is there a way of reseting the camera so that it switches on normally

My problem the W5 has been well described by others here. The lens will not retract and the instruction appears calling for the camera to be turned off and on again. Doing so only gets the same thing again and again. with no end.

It occurs to me that there my be some unpublished combination of buttons pushed at the same time as turning the camera on which will bring up the operating system for direct trouble-shooting. If so, Sony would be able to tell us about that. I have only begun to search, but have nothing yet. Has anyone any knowledge of such a thing?

As things are, the camera is worthless. All I have is a large amount of frustration with the product. Anything that may be a chance retrieve its usefullness would be very nice to know about.

Tried to turn the camera off and lens remained extended. The message 'turn camera on and off' came up. Tried this with no success. The lens is now fully extended, with error E61 showing on the display panel. Help

I had the same problem, I gently pried open the black windows of the shutter with my index finger nail, and applied very gentle pressure (pulling outward) while I pressed the power button. THEN... the whole zoom assembly moved EVER SO SLIGHTLY. So, I repeated the exact same process, with a little bit of pressure... and voila... the lens assembly opened fully and I was able to take pictures.

Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may require professional repair.

The error message is due to the lens issue. the lens might have stuck due to moisture condensation or dust. It may require service to resolve the issue.
If you wish to resolve it yourself, you may use a soft cloth to clear the dust by manually pulling out the lens part..
If it doen't help, it may require opening the Camera

Sony Cybershot Lens Stuck inside!!!

I have the exact same problem with my Cyber-shot; the lens is stuck inside. After trying everything to loosen it (like wedging a razor knife between the sections, even dropping it or banging it against a book, etc) non of which I recommend, I finally got it open by PUSHING on the black telescoping section surrounding the lens itself. For some reason, this worked!

Turn the power on and off again

I fixed this issue with my Sony Cybershot by gently (carefully) hitting the camera 3 times against a carpeted bench with the lens retracted and the camera turned off. It seems the lens gears were stuck. Now the camera works fine again.

Sorry man, I think you're out of luck. Most likely nothing you can service, maybe a professional can fix it though. Still under warranty? Good luck.
