Hi,

Yes it will affect your wireless connection as the computer see's the hardware as unauthorized.

To fix this problem you will need the latest bios update from IBM's support website or go into the BIOS by hitting F1 when you see the IBM logo. Once in the BIOS set it to defaults, save the changes and exit the BIOS, see if that helps.

Good luck and regards.

System will not boot up.

Thinkpads have readable "FRU" (Field Replaceable Unit) numbers storedon various components, and at boot up time, for those internal devices(fortunately excluding drive, memory, etc) if they do not "respondcorrectly" saying they are a valid IBM part, they will give this 1802error.

It could be that the referenced device has failed, and thus seems to be there but not responding; it could need reseating;

The Lenovo site should be able to help you with a service guide to remove the card and see if that works.

there is also a "hack" to change the bios of machine - I think "prior to T43" to delete the 1802 check:
http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/thinkpad-1802-error-fix/

Be aware any "hack" can disable the machine completely!

If it does turn out to be the mini PCI network card, you can tryremoving it and going with USB (did 600s' HAVE usb? I can't remembermine any more) or try to find a "genuine" IBM replacement on eBay orITxchange.com

IBM R40 2722 1802 Error Message

This is due to the fact that IBM laptops have a list of accepted devices, and the pci card is not recognised in the list. On IBM - Amilo, Mini PCI card slot is usually at the back of computer. Locate and remove Mini PCI wireless card, you will not have integrated wireless after this.
Other solution is to find the option to disable mini PCI in bios settings.
Here is how mini pci wireless card looks like:

Error Message on boot

Hi,
IBM requires using a "branded" network adapter, meaning one that has IBM's name on it, no matter if it's broadcom, etc. There is a couple of workarounds for this problem which would enable you to use whatever wireless adapter you wish. I would google IBM R40, and error 1802 and you'll find the application you need. Unfortunately, I'm not able to offer it to you here.
Good luck
