Question about Akai PT5598HD 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Sound but no picture.

When tv power is on there is sound but no picture. What could be wrong? Lamp burned out or is the tuner bad? The same is true when tv is connected to vcr, sound but no picture.

Is this a 3-gun projector style or an LCD?
LCD has a lamp . If its a 3-gun system, then it's probably in the High Volt section on the unit.

Time to get a tech to troubleshoot it in person

Yes, it's the lamp. Order one from your local electronics repair shop. Or toss your Sanyo TV in the garbage and buy something new

Thomson 50DSZ644. Just replaced the Lamp great picture but burned smell.. after few house it smelled verry bad..and i turned off. now when i turn on the tv the picture in middle is dark and still thi

should have unplugged it when you noticed the smell.

UNPLUG and remove and look at lamp you installed--is something in the housing where lamp goes melted? I hope you did not touch the face of the bulb with your hand or fingers.

What ever is wrong find it before trying to use set again.

No picture or sound power light just flashes contiunely

This can mean that the lamp has burned out in your TV; the lamp is user-replaceable via a hatch in the side or rear and available online or through many home theater retailers.

If you've already replaced your lamp, then this can be a bad lamp temperature safety switch.

I was just watching TV last night and the screen just turned black, but I could still hear the audio from the show I was watching. I can't seem to get a picture from this TV at all. Any ideas?

If you have sound and no picture if might be a bad CCFL backlight lamp. On a Sharp LC-32SB23U it has 10 lamps in it and if one burns out it will have sound and no picture till you replace the bad lamp. You did not said what make and model flat panel tv you have.

My tv has no picture but has sound whats wrong?

Steady scrapping sound like a bad bearing is color wheel gone bad. Buzzing sound every 15 seconds is lamp bad.

No picture and no sound

If you have a blue screen on tv, try changing source with the remote control, and check connection cable to source.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem on dvd with no receiver box connected.

If the TV goes off completely, then is usually a faulty power board.

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.
