Re: top and bottom of picture missing

Note: after contacting you, I found the vertical transister (LA78041) was burned in two. I would have a hard time rating your response, because I haven't fixed it. You may still be right, but let me get back with you later. I will give you somewhere between helpful and FixYa!

Farout, bad capacitors in the vertical circuit, you`ll have to get a tv tech out for that repair, lots of them in that circuit and the tech will need the service manual to find them, BMW Rider

Tv help!

When you have the back off, look for the flyback (high voltage) transformer. This is the part that has the thick red wire protruding from its top which attaches to the top of the picture tube with a suction cup. On the flyback there are 2 controls, the bottom one is screen and the top one is focus. Turn the bottom control (screen) down (counterclockwise) until the white lines go away and the brightness looks normal. Then turn the top control (focus) until the picture is nice and sharp. If the F connector has been pulled out and the TV has RCA (red, white, yellow) jacks, use those jacks and set the TV to INPUT.

Screen split with black bar through center, top of picture shows in bottom

It sounds as you desribe, the vertical output IC and or the b+ feed capacitor off the Hi voltage transformer feeding the vert. IC its required voltage. Not a really hard job to replace, but not for a handi person to do. This should be left to the professional, as there are no user serviceable parts inside this set and with the HI voltage and the safety issues its best to call somesone to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
