Bluetooth I have the garmin c550 and the bluetooth will not connect to my phone. It connects to my husbands phone just fine, and it connected to my phone once and I used it and it worked properly, but now it won't connect.

I tried it from both the phone and the garmin. My phone is not on the list of one's that works with the garmin, but my husband's phone isn't on that list either and his connects easily every time. AND mine had connected before it just won't reconnect, so that's why i'm confused.

I have the LG VX8700 and I go to the bluetooth menu and put it in discovery mode and under visible and it says it will stay visible for 3 minutes and it wouldn't work, so i tried connecting from the phone and it still wouldn't work.

I had the same experience - My Motorola Q9h phone connected with my Garmin C550 the first time I tried, but later that day I got an on-screen message on the Garmin that said the phone was disconnected, and I have not been able to get it to connect again since. When I try, the choice for Motorola Smart Phone comes up on the Garmin screen, but then when I touch it, it says it is not on the list of compatible phones. The first time, the screen said to enter the (default) password on the phone, which I did, and the connection was made. I've never even been asked for a password since then.

My phone is not on the list either, but does work as well. If yours had never worked, I would have said it may just not work with it. Are you sure your phone is set to show up on the bluetooth menu? I have to set mine to be seen every time, and it lasts for just a minute. What phone do you have?

Are you trying to connect from the phone or from the unit? If you haven't already done so, try connecting either way. Let me know if you have any luck.

When you put your phone in discoverable mode, does the unit show it at all? What exactly shows on the screen(s)?

I have lost the bluetooth

The Bluetooth symbol on the bottom left of the screen will not show up unless the unit is linked with a compatible phone and Bluetooth is turned on. When the phone is not connected or the Bluetooth is turned off, you will not see this icon. The same thing goes for the Traffic icon. If you do not have an active traffic receiver connected, the Traffic icon will not show up either.

Bluetoth Pairing

If your doing it with blue tooth then ensure that the blue toot connectivity is on on both the phone and your system..

If it still fails to see if you might need to reset yur system and set it back up.

To reset your system
1.) unpluge the positive battery pole for 30 - 60 minutes
2.) connect it back in
3.) follow the instructions on your user manual to set it back up

Unfortunately, not every Bluetooth enabled phone is compatible with the C550. I believe Garmin has a list of compatible phones on their website. It is possible your phone will not work with your GPS.

The problem is caused when the phone book tries to transfer over. I haven't pinpointed the problem just yet, but it seems that this is the cause.Turn off the address book forwarding and it should work!!

Bluetooth connection

If you have tried to connect from the unit and from the phone, and neither finds the other, or they won't connect, it is possible the phone may not be compatible with the unit. Not all Bluetooth devices are compatible. Your best bet would be to go to Garmin's website and check the C550 for compatible phones and see if yours is listed.

Why does phone lock up?

Try connecting from the GPS menu. You may have to set the phone to be able to be found temporarily. Go to the unit's Bluetooth menu, make sure it is Enabled and click Add. It should look for your phone, and if it finds it, the phone should ask you to enter the unit's code. See if this works.

Speaker phone

While the unit is plugged into the computer, it cannot be used as a speaker phone. If you have a cellphone connected via Bluetooth, it will transfer the call to the C550, but you will not hear the other party and vice versa. The unit cannot be manipulated until it is disconnected from the computer.
