Look for a big heat sink (big piece of aluminum) right behind the back access panel. The brown pressboard that you need to take of to have access to the inside of the chassis. I think there is two STK chips for this tv. Older mits only had one. The STK chip is black, should be about 3" long with about 20 pins on it. It may have a metal clip covering the part number on the front.
you have convergence menus
Coarse Green Tilt
Coarse Red & Blue Tilt
the TV should have a Crosshatch or convergence signal
green done first to make it level
then blue and red to match the green
be carefull not to change any other setting other than the Tilt; because you can really mess up your convergence
if the menu adjustments dont do this for you:
you have a light box assembly inside the set that has the Red, Green and Blue Guns mounted on it: it can be mis alaigned as a whole causing what you are discribing. Also, you have a mirror that relects the guns onto the back of your screen: less likely but it could be misaligned..
Just be carefull not to touch any of the following:
wires, circuits, circuit boards, heat sinks, and especially the three Big wires that go to the 3 picture tubses... they have high voltage
the heat sinks could also be live .. Just be carefull !
make sure you have really good lighting and room to work and you should be able to fix this without a problem.
Good Day, John;
It sounds like the Convergence IC's have poor solder connections, by re-soldering the convergence output IC's should solve your problem. The IC's are large and mounted to large silver "heat sink" with STK 392 # on them. Good Luck, big IRISH.
