Question about Sony BM-23MK2 Handheld Cassette Transcriber / Recorder

1 Answer

Corroded batteries For the first time ever, the batteries in my Sony BM-23 corroded.  With difficulty, I was able to remove the top battery.  The second battery is not cooperating. * How can I remove the second battery? * Will I need to have the recorder repaired?

If it is really stuck inside the only way is to open it up
be "Very" carefull when opening, only open it enough to where you can stick something thin in the battery compartment to push out the battery, then use some rubbing alcohol and a Small file to clean the contacts.

good luck

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a cursory reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition and leaking check for spark leakage in the dark
5. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
6. Faulty ignition coil, module, and or sensor.
7. Loose, dirty, or corroded ignition module connector at crankcase.
8. Faulty CKP or CMP, MAP, ETS, ATS, TPS, O2 sensor.
9. Dirty air filter.
10. Intake air leak.
11. Water, dirt, or rust in the fuel system.
12. Carburetor contaminated, sticky float, plugged jets.
13. Carburetor vacuum diaphragm torn, cracked, not seated or installed improperly.
14. Multiple carburetors out of sync.
15. Fuel filter clogged.
16. Old or contaminated fuel.
17. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carb vent line closed off.
18. Gas cap diaphragm valve faulty.
19. Vacuum line from intake manifold to fuel valve is broken, cracked, pinched, or missing.
20. Carburetor controls misadjusted.
21. Incorrect valve timing.
22. Valve springs floating, weak, or broken.
23. Damaged intake or exhaust valve.
24. Incompatible performance parts.

How do I fix my PCM-M10 Sony audio recorder? I haven't changed the batteries for a while and it looks like they are corroded. The recorder won't switch on. Is it fixable?

Carefully remove the batteries and remove the corrosion. Outdoor is better to reduce being exposed by breathing it in. After removing corrosion, add new batteries and try again.

Start and solenoid good, battery good, cables clean. turn key and solenoid clicks, even sometimes if you turn key off, you can hear clicking noise from solenoid. any suggestions?

Solenoid clicking would indicate solenoid faulty or low battery.....since you say battery and solenoid are good I would check voltage at the solenoid! Could be break in wire or earth bad!

Why will my Canon EOS Rebel 35mm camera not turn on?

Probably battery compartment corrosion. Check for corroded contacts and clean them with a nail file or similar "tool". If that doesn't help, the corrosion has probably run into the circuit behind the contacts. If I remember well, that compartment is removable without great difficulty. I would get one of my relics but don't have the time today to dig through all those boxes!! Let me know if you need further help.

Battery charging flashing

When you say the battery has been stored for two years, I hope you removed it from the camera before storing it. Otherwise, the terminals may have corroded and damaged more than the battery. If nothing is corroded have the battery checked. Sitting unused for that length of time may have shortened the battery's lifetime considerably.

Car intermittenly will not start unless you jump it off...has new starter, new battery, & ignition switch....

Consider inspecting battery cables. They may look ok, but could be corroded and oxidized inside. If so, they have difficulty passing adequate current to starter/ground. I've always had issues with exactly this with 87 Cressida and 95 Camry.

Battery corroded inside microphone

My experience with repairing Sony microphones for a television station is that once the battery corrosion eats the copper anywhere within the mic, the circuit (not the mic) is toast. I would send it in to Sony direct as they will have the parts and expertise to turn this around quickly for you.
