Carriage Jam After the last printed page that came out a strange noise occurred, like a grinding noise.  The message on the printer reads "open door clear carriage jam then press enter.   But when we open it up the carriage does not come across - it is still cleared over to the right where we cannot get to it to clear the jam.  Please advise,  thanks

    have the same problem...help

  • Anonymous Jul 17, 2008

After printing a page, I heard a strange, grinding noise. The error lights begin flashing and the message on the printer reads "open door clear carriage jam then press enter". But when I open it, the carriage does not move - it is still over to the far right where I cannot get to it to clear the jam. I turned the printer upside down and shook it causing a plastic piece to fall out (have no idea what it is or where it came from). This allowed the cartridge to move freely on the carriage but now the cartridge doe not appear to engage. Is it time to buy a new printer????

My solution was to simply unplug the unit, with leaving it off for several moments. Voila! It worked!! I had to reset the time and date settings, though. A small price to pay.

Error message reads "carriage jam"

The print carriage access door is the large top part of the printer that swings up. If you look in the user guide it is arrowed on page 14.

If you don't have a copy you can download it here:

How do i clear a cartridge jam on my hp all in one printer

Hi,
Is the paper feeding crooked and catching on the carriage? If so, remove the rear access door and clean the feed rollers with a damp cloth.
some other resion is The print carriage is the part that holds the print cartridges. Carriage blocked or jammed messages may occur for these reasons:
A paper jam was cleared from the front instead of the back on models that have a rear access door.
The print cartridges were installed incorrectly.
There is some obstruction in the path of the print carriage.
Open the print cartridge access door of the all-in-one so that the print carriage can be accessed.

Thanks,

I am receiving an error message on my HP Officejet 6110 printer screen that prevents the printer from functioning. The message is "Open door. Clear carriage jam and then press enter." I've tried opening...

yes, that is a carriage jam and not paper, the grinding is from the clean station that gets blocked with dried ink and cant move. you need to open the printer and clean the ink off of the clean station so it can clean properly and not cause a carriage jam.

Carriage problem with grinding noise

Your printers carriage belt has gone loose you are required to change it. I'd advise you to send it to an expert because changing of a belt in your ink jet is not feasible with guidence through text messages.

Epson R320 "General Error" message - unable to clear

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your Epson printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Stalled printer cartridges

Sounds like an issue with the print carriage. When it's out of alignment and tries to print, it can make awful noises. HP.com has a web page that describes a number of troubleshooting steps when you have print carriage issues:

Carriage Jam Errors

There's also a related web page having to do with the noise coming from the printer:

Hope this helps. Good luck.
