Same exact problem, will not resolve-have tried taking battery out/recharging, memory card out etc...

Same issue, turn it on and the screen shows "access".  The lens extends and retracts 3 times, and then the screen says "turn the power off and on again".  Can't take pictures. Memory is ok, i can load and unload from the camera's memory, and the rotating on-screen menu selection moves when switching photo modes. But the screen is black.  Technician will charge me $100 to fix it, and i'm sure it's something really dumb.

Same as posted before . . . I turn the camera on and only see a black screen with the word access written. Attempting to take a picture leads to a series of beeps and no change in the screen. I've tried removing and recharging the battery and removing the memory stick to no avail.

    • I have the same problem. It looks like a serious manufacturing defect. The motor which pushes the lens barels

    • I have the same problem. It should be a manufacturing defect. We all should ask Sony to recall the model and get back a better model for free or a full refund from Sony. This same issue is growing day by day in many forums. It is no joke after paying a good sum of money for a digital camera and the camera becomes a nightmare after a couple of months ::-((

I'm having the same problem. Has anyone got a solution? I've tried deleting all the photos from the camera, turning it off and on, taking the battery in and out. nothing worked.

I cannot take pictures. When I turn the camera on it says access and then tells me to turn the camera off and then back on. I can get to the menu and the pictures that I took but it will not allow me to take pictures.

  • aneesaseebe Oct 05, 2008

My camera does the same exact thing. It wont turn on and let me take any pictures. It tells me to turn off and tun on back again. You pay all this money and then you have some simple problem that cannot be fixed....

I have DSW50, 2 years old. I am facing the same 'Access' error problem. Sony service centre is saying that the lense need to be replaced and it will cost 5500 INR. I will buy another camera for 5500 INR other than Sony brand. And advice my friend and family not to buy Sony digital camera.

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems (Access Error on Sony's) can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Error message

my camera did the same thing, lens retracts 3 or 4 times, and then proceeded with an error message "turn off and on again". I pressed the power button probably about 10 times, didn't work, so then i gave it a good smack on the top of the frame a few times while repeatedly pressing the power button and it did the trick. Hasn't gave me problems since...hope it helps

Turn camera off then on again?

I posted and looked around more online- I found this, did it and it worked! I just held camera with lens upright and used my left thumb and applied pressure when turning off with right thumb.

"I have dsc-w70 with lens stuck out . When you turn it on , you will see a message turn the power off . I've just fixed this morning without any tool and it took only a second . When i turn the power off with my left thumb , i used my right hand to squeeze the lens with little push it in , it will be back to the right position it should be . My camera is working great now like before . Do not affraid , hope everyone can do it . Good luck ."

Try re-charging your battery or you may check your memory stick. If the cause of this problem is by an accidental drop of the device, then may be you suspected right on the lens. It may cause dis a line of gears... ^_^

apparently i have some bad news , its the lense which is misaligned or broken in terms of gears, the thing to do turn on the camera and make sure that lens is out and then LIGHTLY tapp on the lens the direction of which you feel that the lens is not equal legnth to the outer ring > place that looks uneven
