The multi control knob no loner access's the Audio or Function command when pushed in. Instead it does a double "beep" when pushed up, down, left or right so eg, pushing right, advances the track then accesses Function when it springs back. Is this a fault or have I set somehting wrong?

But - before you toss it, check out http://www.fixya.com/support/p206545-pioneer_deh_p4100#manuals page 34 - 35 to see if you can access the "initial setting menu". This is done with all sources off. You have to hold the "F" button down for 2 seconds. Then press the function button a few times until "AUX OFF" is displayed. Hit the ^ or v button to get to "AUX ON". I have to do this whenver a battery goes dead. Bugs the heck out of me. For some reason my wife knew how to do this without looking at the manual, me, the mechanical engineer, not so much.

I HAVE A PIONNER DEH-P6800MP

If your volume knob does nothing, then odds are your speaker outputs are blown. I would double check the setup menu to see if it has an internal amp shutoff, but I think only Alpines have this..
To access the menu, please do the following:
Press and Hold the "source" button until unit turns off.
Press and hold down the "multi-control" knob until the "language select" display appears.
Rotate the "multi-control" knob until you see something like "internal amp" or aything that looks like it would shut off the speaker outputs.....

Again, i don't think Pioneers have this, so odds are your aplifier chip is blown.
