Sony Hi8 Eject Tape Issue

When I try Play or record on my Hi 8 Camcorder I get an error Message to Eject the tape. I have tried using a cleaning tape and other Tapes. Other Tapes have the same issue and the cleaning tape does not solve the problem. I have also allowed the battery to fully discharge and have left the battery out of the camcorder for a 1 week.

Any ideas would be greatly appericated.

Sony hi8 tape has snapped and I want to repair it as it has sentimental value?

If the tape snaps or cut itself, try to open the cartridge by removing the 4 screws on its sides and carefully attached something like a Scotch tape on each end to mend the video tape. Once done, it will play smoothly when you try to play it back on your sony Hi8 camcorder. I'm sure this helps because I am doing it when a client has torn tapes that needs to be transferred to dvd's. ^_^

I have a GE CG818A Camcorder, when I play it it only plays black and white. Was wondering if there is a used Sony or any camcorder that would play my Video8 P6-120MP tape, in color.

I have the exact same camera and same exact same problem. Any analog Video8 or Hi-8 camcorder or VCR will play these tapes.

By using the same cassettes as Hi8, many (NOT ALL) Digital8 (produced by Sony exclusively) camcorders are able to play analog Video8/Hi8 recordings, preserving compatibility with already recorded analog tapes.

you can connect Digital8 camcorders to your computer to download your movies for editing or Internet use.

As of 2008, Digital8 camcorders have been removed from the equipment offered by Sony.

While playing an 8mm tape that was recorded, I have the problem where there was no sound from the camcorder and the picture was grainy.

sounds like the record head(s) may be very dirty, check them, they should clean and shiny if dulled an brown with tape residue, you can clean them with a lint free cloth and head cleaner. tape based cleaners cassette may not be good enough if the heads are very dirty. ensure you give the heads enough time to dry after cleaning 2 mins should be good then run a test record to check them.

hope this helps

Check the top of the tape. There is a slider which open a slot or closes it. It should be closed.
