Did all of the above, but I was still getting the streaks. Finally decided to change out the Drum Kit. I had recently replaced it with one someone gave me, but now realize it must have been too old or damaged. The streaking has all cleared up.

    Thanks,

Did give it a thorough cleaning, and recleaned th toner tray, but still had the streaks. Finally decided to change out the drum kit. I had just recently changed it, but used a kit someone had given me. Guess it must have been faulty or too old. Put a new kit in and it prints fine.

    Thanks,
    NewMex

ISSUE: Printer output has print defects, such as toner dusting, streaks, or dots of a single color. These defects appear mostly on the backside of a print job. SOLUTION: A full toner collection tray may be the source of this issue. Check to see if the toner collection tray is filled with one toner color. If so, empty the tray. The steps below detail how to remove and check the toner collection tray.

Hi,

There are many possible causes. You'll have to do a bit of detective work to find your particular problem. Depending on whether your streaks are black or paper, you're either getting unwanted toner, or the printing process is being interrupted.

  • The photosensitive drum can get a mark or a spot or even a damaged area. This usually presents as a regular area which repeats, going down the print, rather than a streak It may be possible to clean the drum with a soft tissue -- perhaps with the addition of a little Isopropyl alcohol. If you have a replacement drum, try that. In most cases the drum is part of the cartridge, but not always.
  • Loose toner in the system. If your drum is leaking, or you've spilled some toner inside the printer (perhaps after shaking the cartridge to get more life out of it) the excess toner may cling to the paper in streaks and get fused onto it. The cure is a good vacuum clean of the insides.
  • Sometimes a small corner of a sheet of paper (or similar) can get caught in the workings of the printer, This can obscure part of the optical (especially with LED printers) and cause a blank streak in the printing. Dust and toner on the LED head can cause similar problems and fuzzy printing. Tissue and alcohol again!
If possible try another toner cartridge to see if the problem persists.

Most likely the OPC (drum) or sometimes called "image drum or transfer belt located in the top draw. this is a consumable that needs replacing after it's life cycle is over. sometimes it will go below or over the life cycle, it all depends on many variables.

I would take out all the consumables, toner, belt and so on and use a dry cloth and small vacuum to clean the inside of the printer, then test it again, but when you have streaks it is usually the transfer belt. other possibilities is the scanner/laser window inside, sometimes it gets toner on the glass.

but step 1 is the Transfer Belt/Drum

hope this helps

forgot to mention something else to check, the waste toner tray

You have to remove the fuser and in the middle you will see a black tab which is part of the black tray. You just grab the top part of the tab and pull the tray out. clean.

this should be reference on the manual too

Veritcal streak on left side of paper. Streak is light gray

Hello,

Vertical streaks are usually caused by a bad fuser. The fuser roller has a teflon caoting and when this coating gets scratched or worn it causes image defect to appear on the paper. The fuser for the 4250 is part number RM1-1082 and you can get them from Amazon.com or other online sites. Here is a link to an article that shows how the fusers can cause the vertical image defects like you have.

When I print photos, they have uniform vertical streaks.

Issue: Banded or streaked prints
Solution: Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows)

Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows) The Quality setting controls how finely ink droplets are placed on the printed page. Depending on the type of paper being used a higher Print Quality setting does not always insure a better print. Print speed will decrease as the Print Quality setting is increased. Follow the instructions below to change the print quality settings in the Canon printer driver for the Windows operating system through a printing application.
  1. Click 'Properties' in the Print dialog box.

Note: Depending on the Application software, 'Properties' may be displayed as 'Preferences'.

  2. Set the desired print quality in the 'Print Quality' section.

  3. Select 'High', 'Standard', or 'Draft / Fast'.
To set more detailed print quality settings, follow this procedure:
  1. Select 'Custom' and click 'Set'.

    win_main_print_quality.jpg

  2. In the Set Print Quality dialog drag the slide bar from 'Fast' to 'Fine' to select the print quality.

    win_print_quality_slider.jpg

Note: There are five options in 'Quality'. However, selectable options are limited depending on the media type.

  3. Select 'Auto', 'Dither', or 'Diffusion' from the 'Halftoning' section.

Hp 4550 vertical line down center of page

From the service manual:

Vertical lines or streaks
Check for a leak where light might be entering the printer.
Check for circumferential scars on the photosensitive drum. If scars are present, replace the
drum cartridge if the line goes through all colors.
Check for circumferential scars on the upper fusing roller. If scars are present, replace the upper
fusing roller if the line goes through all colors.
Remove the imaging drum and inspect main charger or imaging drum for a contaminant, such as
a fiber, if the line goes through all colors.
CAUTION Do not expose the imaging drum to light for more than 15 seconds. The drum is light sensitive, and
exposure to light can cause permanent damage.
Vertical black lines
 The toner cartridge is defective.
The toner cartridge is not seated properly.
 The fuser entrance is dirty.
The fuser has scratches on it.
This might be a repetitive defect. If so, the lines will repeat at a consistent interval down the page.
The printer needs to be cleaned.
There is a problem in the heating element.
Vertical white lines
If white lines or streaks appear only in the black areas of the printed media, print several
configuration pages to clear the anomaly. If this does not clear the problem, check the sleeve
surface to confirm the defect, then replace the black toner cartridge.
If white lines appear only in a particular color, try printing several configuration pages to clear the
error. If the error does not clear, check the sleeve surface to confirm the defect, then replace the
defective toner cartridge.
There is a lack of toner or the toner cartridge is faulty.
There is dirt in the laser path.
 The fuser is defective.
A mirror in the laser scanner is dirty.

Streaky copies

It probably has several issues - optics dirty, and drum, and blade failing. I would also imagine that even the Solid "blacks" aren't as black as they could be, and that would be the developer. This machine is in the 17 year old range, and I wouldn't spend dime on it

Problem with printing smoothly

Hi morshi. I found a potential solution to your problem with your 5610 printing vertical lines at HP.com:

Vertical black lines or streaks

It's hard to tell from the rest of your message what other problems you're describing. I did find a troubleshooting page at HP that shows how to address general print quality problems:

Problem with quality of copies

If those links don't solve all of your problems, the Color printing issues page for the 5610 at HP has numerous other solutions:

Color printing issues

I know the name of that last link may seem misleading since you haven't described color printing issues, but the links on that page offer different general print problems and their solutions.

Good luck.

Copies and outgoing fax quality

your machine most likely has toner spills in it.
if you send faxes face side down follow these instructions ;
1- take out toner
2- look for thin glass strip on bottom inside the machine
3-wipe clean

if you make copies side up then do the same except look for glass strip on the upper side of machine
