Connecting laptop via belkin wireless router

I've received a lenovo 3000 n200 laptop with a belkin wireless g router and in trying to connect to my desktop have encountered several problems. I have an emachine desktop, a dial-up connection and purchased a us robotics external modem to connect router, but the modem cable to connect to router is usb and the port in the router is a phone cable connection. What do I do now?

Don't forget to configure XBOX360 and PS3 through there too. You can even find your WEP key just incase you've forgotten it.

If you use in Internet Explorer you may be greeted with a box asking for username and password. Both username and password are " admin " in lower-case. Then to retrieve the WEP key click on HOME NETWORK. You'll see your Wireless network and Ethernet network. Beside the WIRELESS you should see WLAN: XXXXXXX (54Mbps) click on that. In the top right just under SPEEDTOUCH you will see OVERVIEW | DETAILS | CONFIGURE | HELP If you click on DETAILS down near the bottom is your WEP key. Hope this helps anyone out there.

SOURCE: ethernet vs. usb

I am having a connection problem with the rca dhg535 modem. I have two computers and one computer only has an ethernet port and the other has ethernet and a high speed usb port. I loaded the drivers for the usb port on the one computer and I have it connected fine to the modem, everything works, but when I connect my other computer to the modem with the ethernet cord I get a no connectivity. I was wondering if there is a way to run both computers off the modem without a router.

SOURCE: trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.
Good Luck

SOURCE: Hi, I want to set

1) Make sure the cable is plugged into the Internet port (or whatever the appropriate port is, since you didn't specify exactly which router).

2) At your router's configuration page, make sure DHCP (Automatic) is selected.

3) After connecting to the router, if it still does not work, open up the command window by going to the search box in the Start Menu or click Run... and type "cmd".

4) Type "ipconfig /release". Wait until this is finished.

5) Type "ipconfig /renew". Wait until this is finished.
This should have given you an IP Address.

6) Try to connect to a website.

I cant get my motorola sb5101 surf board cable modem to connect to a belkin g wireless router. the light on the belkin flashes orange when i try to connect it to the modem but no internet connection

I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.

Laptop cannot pick up wireless from modem

Is your Wireless router integrated in the modem? If it is not, try to unplug the router for a few minutes then restore the power and see if it fixes the problem. If it is integrateddo the same for the modem. Try to connect using the laptop. If it does not work use the laptop to scan for new wireless locations and make sure you see the home location. If you do not your wireless router is not working, If so select the home location and enter any Web Encryption Protection and try to connect. If your wireless router is not working, make sure the preference for the router has the wireless function turned on. To do this use ether the software which you received with the router/modem or internet explorer to access the IP address of the router. If your router is configured for wireless use it may be a bad wireless router.

Need to get wireless on my laptop,

No, the SB5100 is just a cable modem, not a wireless router. You will need to keep your sb5100 but you will need to purchase a wireless router if you want wireless on your laptop. If you can also plug your laptop into the sb5100 via an ethernet cable for your internet connection. Linksys and Belkin and others make wireless routers that you can use for your wireless connections.

I want to encrypt my belkin modem with wireless G Router

Belkin, IP is to access router firmware page

Enter the default or your unique username and password.
Then, look for the security settings for your wireless connection and set it to “WPA” or “WPA-PSK, TKIP” and make your own passphrase. Then, double click on your laptop's wireless connection's icon in the system tray and connect manually to the now "secure wireless network" entering the passphrase that you set up in the router.

TIP: WEP isn't secure, but it is better than nothing.

Still stuck? Look in the wireless router's manual to learn how to secure your connection, and only then, call the router manufacturer.

This could be a duplex issue. When you log into the belkin does is assign you an IP address? Have you used a ballpoint pen to reset the EMTA since you have connected the router?

Wireless internet connection

I may be able to help with this...but I need a detailed description of how you have things connected between the XP desktop, the cable, modem, the Linksys router, and the laptop. Also, is the Linksys router new?

Typically, the wan port on the wireless router connects directly to the cable modem with a cat5 network cable....then the desktop pc connects to the router...on port 1 for example...with a similar cable. Once the wireless router is set up properly, the laptop should then be able to connect using wireless.

Problems setting up Belkin wireless G+ mimo modem router/usb network adapter

It sounds like the router address is wrong or you are not connected to the network.. Guessing you are using Windows XP or Vista. Go to the DOS prompt ( then type ipconfig. This will bring up details on your network (see example below).

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

You should see default gateway address which is the address of your router ie in your example. If this is not shown you have not connected to your router properly. If it shows a different address use the address shown to try and access your router. HTH
