I have a GE side by side refrigerator (Model #GSL25JFXLB) and the ice and water dispenser stopped working. Any suggestions?

THE first thing i would ask are you still making ice in the ice bucket and just that it will not come out of the door... if so it is going to be a problem with the dispenser actuator or the micro switch in the door. there is a small pc control board in the dispenser area they may also be affected.. will require you remove the trim piece around the dispenser usually under the water overflow in the door once you remove it there will be 2 screws take them out ..if your do not have the screws on the side of trim you will see notched out area on each side the carefully a screwdriver can be put in and pop the trim piece off. check the switch with the door actuator is it making contact.if you are not getting water or ice production has stopped i would say check your filter first/next check to see if behind the produce drawers you have a water storage resorvoir make sure it has not froze up... lastely check the water valve to make sure you are getting 120 volts to water valve when the door switch is pushed ..hope this helps post with more info and any other questions you have....good luck to you...

I need to replace the control board for the ice dispenser. How do I remove the cover to get to the module. I tried prying off the cover but am afraid it is going to break. I am not sure where I should pry...

All you need is your kenmore model number and replace the dual water control valve on rear of your refrigerator. They have one side for ice maker and other is for water dispenser. You can test the voltage for 120 volts as someone presses dispense water. Most likely the coil that opens the valve for water is defective. Sea Breeze

Kenmore side by side refrigerator

If you are asking about the dispenser lever, There is a good chance it is already broke. You will need to remove the front cover. On most models, you will need a standard flat blade screwdriver and then locate the indentations on the underside of the cover trim. It takes a little force to pop the cover trim away from the door, but it will come loose. Once you have removed the cover, the dispesnser levers should be visible.
I hope this will help you to at least determine weather you can just tighten it or need to replace the lever. Please let me know if I have helped you. I can also look up the correct part and get it shipped to you.

Hope I helped

Not dispensing water

more likely the switch braket has broken. this unit has a bracket that holds the micro switches on small plastic pins and they break easily. you didnt list a model number but you an secure the part thru and here are the steps for repairing the unit:
  • first unplug unit
  • remove disp cover, look on bottom edge of the cover and you will see 2 slots for a flat tip srew driver carefully pry the cover off
  • you will expose the switch bracket and most likely will see the broken pins.
  • just change the switches and light socket over to the new bracket (dont forget to install the switch spacers)
some models have 2 screws under the drip tray as opposed to having to pry the cover off.
If this doesnt sound like your refrig post a complete model number and I will get you the proper instructions. thanks peyton

I have the opposite problem

You may have air in the system. When you actuate the dispenser it opens an electric valve in back to start the flow of water. When you release the dispenser air in the system expanding will cause the water to continue to flow until the pressure equalizes.

Water Dispenser on Freezer door leaks

Some of the trim plates need to be pulled downward quite hard to get them to release. Pull any drip tray out then pull downwards on the bottom part while trying to pull outwards too. Try that and let us know.
