If your computer is already one year old... try replacing the Button Cell. If it is dead-cell it keeps on resetting your BIOS to manufacturers default. If it is not dead, then the next problem is the memory.

Hi Girdhari

Try this..

Go into the BIOS first and reset all to DEFAULT.

Open the BIOS. If you're not sure which key is used to open BIOS, it's either any of the following or it's listed on the first screen that appears on the monitor, before the Windows logo appears.Possible keys: Esc, Del, F2, F8, F10 or F12

Once there, at the bottom there should be F1 F2 F3 etc.,.one to display "Default". Press that F key and reboot the machine.

If you have the Windows XP Disc in the drive, it should boot up and guide you through the setup.

Hope this helps

Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on then reboot it. You need to see the initial display screen to get into the BIOS.

  • 2

Press the "F2" key when you see the initial screen displaying the BIOS provider information. If using the Optiplex and Dimension models, press the "DEL" key instead of the "F2" key.

Enter password if required. When finished in the BIOS be sure to save your changes. For changes to take place you must reboot the computer.

    Hi there,

If your computer works fine with an onboard video, it is possible that your motherboard is not getting much power. The agp video card gets power from the motherboard. I suggest using a different power supply.

Cannot seem to find how to enable the sata ports. I've tried all the solutions suggested with no good outcome.

With the SATA drive properly attached to the cable, try clearing the NVRAM (CMOS). By clearing the NVRAM (CMOS), the system will redetect all the installed hardware including your new drive. Just follow the procedure I have outlined below. After the clearing of the NVRAM (CMOS) you may get a warning at boot up about the Diskette Drive if you do not have a floppy drive installed in the system. If that happens, just go into the BIOS Setup and disable the option for the Diskette Drive. The error message will be gone on the next reboot.

    • Reboot system and enter the BIOS Setup by pressing F2.
    • Turn on Caps Lock, Scroll Lock and Num Lock.
    • Press ALT + E then ALT + F (should hear beep) then ALT + B
If you need any further assistance please feel free to contact me again.

Please rate me if this solution works for you

    Thanks......Have a great time

I am doing a clean install from the recovery disk, eveything went fine, all the files copied over, but when it rebooted a message window popped up and said "Windows setup cannot configure Windows to run on...

There might be a bios setting that you have too set for the recovery mode. If you can get into the BIOS then check to see if there's a setting for recovery. You can also try at boot up (before the Windows error) to hit Ctrl-F10.
