Question about Arris SURFboard SB4200 Modem

1 Answer

Wireless routers Got my pc connected to a Motorola SB4200 modem via usb. Internet works fine. Bought a Netgear WGR614 v7 wireless router for wireless internet connection on my new laptop. Removed the pc as its gone to a friend. Do i unplug the usb connection and discard it then connect the moto and netgear together via ethernet. Will my new laptop then just attach itself wirelessly to the router. Googling seems to suggest the moto is not compatibla with the netgear as the moto is a usb modem but it has an ethernet plug on the back. plz help, Keith

Just plug the cable modem ethernet into the input to your router and you will be fine. Just remember, if you decide you want to make any changes to your router settings through your browser, make sure you hook up an ethernet line from your laptop to the router before making any changes. The reason for this is if you make a change in security settings on your router while wireless, the router will reboot and if your laptop did have the settings changed in it, you can be locked out.
Not that you can't get back in, but it is a pain to have to do.

Hello, I dont think you need the drivers for Router. And first of all you need to connect your modem to your router through ethernet cable. And after connecting your modem, configure your wireless router by typing this IP address in internet explorer: The user id is admin and the password is password. Then detect your broadband connection by using the option in the router. Try connecting your Laptop to wifi after setting the connection.

PS3 and Netgear WGR614 V7 Router

Basically the PS3 wireless settings needs to be configures with the Netgear wireless router settings.
To test if the modem is connects to the Internet, connect a computer into the modem, if it works then the modem is configured correctly. If it doesn't work, then contact your ISP and get them to test your modem connection.

Netgear WGR614 router with USB Cable Modem

When working with routers, CAT-5 cables are the more usual cable used. Your modem's Ethernet Port --- connect it via cable to the router's WAN input. Connect one of the router's LAN outputs to your computer's LAN input with another CAT-5 cable. Go through the appropriate Router Setup by putting into your Internet Explorer, with ' admin ' for User Name, and no password (just press Enter in Password frame). Once you are in to the router setup, you can select your Network Name (SSID) and then implement whatever Security you might want to use. You should be up and running by now, nhave lots of fun!

That means it hasnt picked up an IP from the modem.

Unplug the power to the modem and the router. Leave them off for a full minute. Pluge the modem in first , give it another full minute then power up the router. If you still have problems try another cable.

If you still have issues, Power off the modem and the PC and repeat the above process.Verify the PC is getting connection. If you cant connect then call the cable/DSL company.

If you can connect download the latest firmware from Netgear and flash the router.
