Question about LRD737 Radar Detector

1 Answer

Bad power cord

Where can I purchase a factory power cord for my uniden radar detector, not a universal one.

I am just looking for an original power cord to purchase to replace the one that no longer works. I don't want the typical Radio Shack junk with several different adapters to make it work. This looks like trouble waiting to happen to me.

    Thanks

What amperage does a "Whistler 1610" Radar detector take? I am buying a cord at radioshack and i don't know what kind of power cord to get.

All Whistler radar detectors operate on 12 volts. Non factory power cords should have at least a 2 amp fuse and have the center tip of the plug positive.

Whistler 1783 detector shuts as soon as it goes thru start up mode. seems to get very hot to touch.

Try the factory reset - hold in the power and quiet buttons, while holding in these buttons plug in the power cord. Unit should beep twice. The unit will get warm to the touch.

Whistler 1730 keeps blowing fuses. no other problems with cigarette lighter plug

Is the lighter socket fuse blowing or the fuse in the unit's power cord? Have you tried another power cord from a Friends radar detector? If it doesn't blow that power cord's fuse, then your power cord is bad. If it does blow the fuse in the other power cord, there could be something wrong with the unit. I found this uniden stalker wide band model RD 6000W which i bought probably in the early 1990s...it is x k ka should i throw it away because it is old technology. I went into radio shack and bought a...

It may be old technology, but honestly, the radar guns still emit the same signals that these radar detectors look for to alert you. Newer detectors may have a little better sensitivity and better anti-falsing technology, but basically there isn't much difference between one made in 1980 and one made today. (Kind of like an AM radio)

NEED INSTRUCTION/OWNER MANUAL

Uniden has been out of the radar detector business for some time now. I would strongly suggest getting a different radar detector instead of using this older model since newer radar detector models generally have far better performance -- especially for detecting Ka band radar.

Anyway, Uniden's web site does not list an instruction manual for this particular radar detector model. Yet, take a look at the instruction manual for the most similarly numbered product model shown in the following link:

Uniden Owners Manuals -- Radar Detectors

One of the instruction manuals in the above link should be similar enough to your radar detector so that you can figure out everything regarding your specific Uniden RD model.
