Question about Philips 50P8341 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Black Picture I had just bought this TV (Philips 50P8341A) and got it home for a few days it worked perfectly. Now all of a sudden the picture screen is like going black and stays like that for a minute and then the picture comes back... and it keeps repeating this.. sometimes it will stay on for awhile, then starts to go black again. Can someone maybe give me good advice on what could possibly wrong. I was going to get a tech. to look at it, but its going to be expensive. Thanks!

Re: Black Picture

The picture coming on then going off to a totally black screen is a sign of the high voltage generator being marginal in its performance.

The repair may be simple and inexpensive; or something more sinister. The technician will have to tell you.

Let me know the outcome. I am very interested in this rather strange case.

Philips model 50P8341A bought from walmart in late 2004

those are the fuses, often voltages will remain present after unplugging the set. That model is famous for the LSB board being defective. You can get new LSB boards at the following link. You can leave a email if your not sure which one you need for your model.

What you may have needed to do was adjust the green & blue crt screens to match the red. Go into your picture menu adjust, turn color all the way down to a black & white px. Now adjust each crt screen so that you end up with a true black & white px. Then adjust each focus control to get a sharp px, have your tv on a channel like the home shopping network so you can adjust each crt focus one at a time for clarity by cover the other 2 up. Then go back into picure adjust & turn color ahlf way up, you should see a better px.
