I have basically the same problem with that exact tv. I have a PS3 (with HDMI) and when i plug in a HDMI-to-DVI cable to the TV, i get a "Invalid Mode" error on the tv. I am currently getting 1080i using component cables but that is still an anolog signal. I want the HDMI-DVI digital signal.

So have you found a solution to connecting your PS3 through the HDMI-to-DVI cable? I am also getting the "Invalid Mode".

How can I connect a samsung bdf5900 to my hitachi rear projection tv

Your TV is probably older and has Component, Composite and DVI connectors. HDMI is a newer connector that integrates sound. If your RPTV does not have HDMI but DOES have DVI, you can get an HDMI to DVI adapter on eBay or a computer store pretty cheap. You will need another way to get the sound from the Blu-Ray player, either external speakers connected to the player, or stereo RCA cables from the player to the TV (there will be a set of RCA audio plugs with the TV's DVI port).

Get the manuals. All is explained there.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Denon-AVR-587-Receivers-manual/id/696ci075/t/2/

Component video is just as good as HDMI.

The unnamed Philips DVD player has a manual somewhere. Try retrevo or drill down into this directory to find it...

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/

Be patient. The alpha directories are slow to load.

DVI connectors can be adapted to HDMI or component video.

"Web search "dvi to component adapter" "dvi to hdmi adapter"

Your PC's video and display controls will determine how all that works.

How to connect blu ray player hdmi to my laptop

1) Look at your laptop computer to see if you have an HDMI cable port. This port is roughly half an inch wide and provides both the HD audio and video signal. If you don't, you are going to use a DVI port on the laptop. This is the same port you use to connect monitors to your computer.

2) Plug the DVI-to-HDMI adapter into the DVI port on the laptop with the Blu-ray player. If you have an HDMI port on your laptop, you can skip this step.

3) Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI end of the adapter. If you have an HDMI port, plug the cable directly into the HDMI port.

4) Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the HD television. Power on your television, press the "Input" button and select "HDMI." You can now see the contents from your Blu-ray player on the TV.

hi,
Your TV didn't have any HDMI port. Do you mean the DVI port. do you use DVI cable or DVI to HDMI cable.
The only way to check whether the DVI port is working or not is by replacing the cable. purchase a new cable and try again.
ok

Blue ray is hooked up to tv with HDMI correctly but there is no sound when playing the DVD

Check the hdmi port on you tv. There are some tv's that have an HDMI port that say HDMI/DVI(its a port for an older Digital Video that required seperate cable for sound), if this is the case then you need to hook it up to a different HDMI port on the tv because that input does not carry sound(you will see red and white audio inputs next to it) or use the audio outputs(red and white) cables and plug them into the out put of DVD player to the audio inputs that correspond to that same HDMI input. If this helps please rate me I do not get paid in anyway. I like to help people and want to make sure this is helping.

Is the hitachi 46W500 blue ray compatible

It doesn't have an HDMI port, only a DVI port. You'd have to get an HDMI-to-DVI cable to get a true "digital" signal on the screen, but you'd still have to do your audio with the RCA jacks because DVI is video only whereas HDMI is audio and video.

As far as Blu-ray compatible, yes and no. It's a high-def TV, so if you hook a Blu-Ray player up to it you'll be in good shape but the built-in DVD player will not read or play Blu-Ray movies.

Need to know how to hook up to tv

Most DVD players connect using composite cables also known as RCA cables. Usually you will have a yellow port (video feed) and white port (audio feed) on the dvd player. The red lead is another audio lead to be used with units that provide stereo audio capability. Simply connect one end to the DVD unit and the oother to the TV inputs of the same color. You must use the in ports on the tv not the out ports if so equipped. Then you will have to tune the tv to the proper input that you connected to by using the input button on remote, going into the menu and changing input there, or you may have to channel the tv down past 00 to get to the inputs.
Hope this helps.

HDMI DVD units are the same except the connecting media is different therefor the inputs would be HDMI 1, HDMI 2 or DVI etc.

HDMI->DVI cable won't work

Are you using a HDMI to DVI cable or are you using a HDMI to DVI adapter? Sometimes, though not on all products you have to go into the menu and select which out put your using for each source and whats going through it. You might need to go into your dvd player menu and tell it not to try to run audio through the cable. That way it's not trying to force a signal through the cable that cant be accepted by the TV. That might possible solve your problem for the DVD player. Let me know if it works

Dell w3000 & PS3

This may not be DVI issue.
I connected DVD player HDMI ----> DVI ( Dell W3000) LCD TV.
Later I found that Dell TV version of DVI does not support HDCP protocol ( High Definition Content Protection protocol). So I could not play HDMI to DVI movies from my DVD player instead I use Y Pb Pr -- this works ok.

Hope this helps... I am not use PS3 enforces HDCP - I assume Sony linked with Sony Pictures would enforce HDCP on HDMI cable.
