Should last a long time as long as the keyboard is being treated in a rough manner. I've had my keyboard for 3 years now and it still works fine.
Alot of times, dust or dirt gets in the keys and that can cause problems. You may want to use a can of air and blow underneath the keys to get extra dust or dirt away from it. That can cause keys act funky. Also any kind of liquid can cause problems as well.
Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute
period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.
Just keep trying. Sometimes they can be a pain.
