My spare tire is gone. I don't know if the cable broke or was cut. Is there a better replacement system for holding up the spare tire than just replacing the current system?

The cable is sufficient to hold the weight of the tire. Someone probably cut yours and took your tire.Aside from putting the spare tire in the hatchback there really isnt another option. They make locks for the hole in the bumper, however that wont stop someone with bolt cutters from cutting the cable.

The older model fords had a metal plate that would drop down and you set the tire on it and then pushed it back up and you could put a padlock on it. IT may be too expensive to modify than to just replace your tire.

I don't know where you are but a tire shop will be able to get your spare down once you cut that cable you have to replace the whole unit but if your stuck oh well bolt cutters will do it and fast cut the piece that holds up the tire that you see under the truck

The ranch hand bumper has covered the hole to release the spare tire. Any ideas?

Could you cut the cable that hold the spare tire up? Expensive, but????. Take it to a welding shop, and let them cut a hole in it with a cutting torch.

Pathfinder spare tire wench is broken but cant be removed. I have replacement but cant get old one off

You will need to cut the cable to the wench that holds the tire up, no other way to get at the spare to use it.

I don't know how to get my spare tire off of my 1998 gmc envoy

I think there is a safety device inside the plate that holds the spare tire up, you can sometimes use a screw driver to hold it out of the way so that you can slide the plate up the cable, however if it is seized, it will require that you cut the cable and replace the hoist, depending on where you live. There are a lot of them that are seized in the northern states and around beaches due to salt.

2003 chevy surb... can not release my spare tire...cable is broken ,,,nothing to pull on help !

If when you turn the crank nothing happens to drop the tire. Look up inside and see if the cable is loose (most likely not) if not the assembly is broken, you will have to cut the plate that holds tire up and replace the spare tire cable and crank assembly.

WHAT IS THE NAME FOR THE CABLE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE UNDER TH

your post was cut short, but cable that holds the spare in place is what I think u were asking, and that would be what u call it, 'the cable that secures the spare tire, or lowers the spare tire'

2006 GMC Sierra 1500 cant remove spare tire

The safety clamp is seized. It is on the cable just above the cups that hold the tire rim up. My mechanic had to torch the cable to get it off. If you can release the tension on the cable (support the spare while lowering the crank you may be able to get the clamp to release. If not, cut the cable above the clamp and you will still have enough cable length to bolt the cup back on. The owner's manual details this procedure. ( GM must know it does not release properly)
