Question about Lexmark JetPrinter X1185 All-In-One InkJet

Lexmark printrio x1185 just keeps on blinking doing self test...

I got this printer more than a year ago and it works well for the whole year of usage but when i changed a new batch of both cartridges (as in new & a not refill) the problem began. Everytime i switched it on, i heard a snapped sound or lets just say, a "bang" sound like the printer is smashed to one side of the printer casing and then it displayed the printer problem saying:
"make it sure
- the catridges are snapped in place
- that no objects blocked its movement"

I already cleaned the cartridges where the ink flowed and the printer head too but still the same. I did a self-test printing -- i unplugged the printer and unhooked the usb cable then took both cartridges out. i plugged the printer back then pressed the green button and hold paper feed button but it just kept on blinking. does it means to say, the whole printer is messed up

Re: Lexmark printrio x1185 just keeps on blinking doing...

Hi, on my older Z series printer, as it got older I took some 3in1 oil and a Q tip and applied just a little oil to the slide rods or bars that the cartridges slid back and forth on. They get quite dry with the paper dust and time. Also here is a link to Lexmarks tech site. Hope this helps,, Mechanic

The encoder strip is most likely the problem. Unplug the power from the printer. Open the front cover and move the cartridge carrier to the center. You should see a white ribbon cable, a thin plastic strip and a black belt with teeth.

The thin plastic strip is the encoder strip. It rides in a sensor on the back of the cartridge carrier that you will not be able to see. Reach in with the first finger of either hand and carefully strum the strip as if playing a guitar.

The strip will need to be lowered slightly and brought towards you slightly. Please be careful not to break the strip or your printer will not function. Once you believe the strip is set correctly, plug the power back and try printing the self test.

To self-test the printer, please follow the steps given below:

1. Power the printer off.
2. Press and hold the "Paper Feed" button.
3. While still holding the "Paper Feed" button, press and release the "Power" button. Continue holding the "Paper Feed" button.
4. When the printer starts pulling paper, release the "Paper Feed" button. It should print a test page at this point.
5. Power the printer off, as this test is continuous.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either a solid black or solid color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, please try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with only a color cartridge installed (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed). If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.

If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues - we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.
If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.

If it slams to the left again, the strip is not yet set correctly.

If you cannot repair the strip, please contact Lexmark tech support.
