my NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A will only read dvd's or burn dvd's. it wont reconize that there is a blank cd or audio cd in the writer or any cd if that matters. so in short i cannot play or burn cd's.
I have tried reinstalling the firmware and cleaning the plate with rubbing alcohol. does anyone know what else I can try please.

When I brought the computor a few years ago everything was installed. so I guess everything was provided by XP. I have itunes and incd and nero also installed as well as record now which was the burn program installed on the computor when I got it. if you can give me some advice it would be fantastic. I am scared to delete the burner from device manager and restart just in case I lose my burner completely.

What is the configuration of your computer? Did you install the drivers or use the ones from Windows XP?
