A reputable computer or TV repair shop could probably fix it, but it will continue to be prone to failures due to its age. Also, the cost would likely be 70% (or more) of the cost of a new one.

I would recommend replacing it with a new one....you'd be pleased with a nice 17" LCD monitor...but if you're concerned about price...the CRT models are still a little cheaper.

Above is your manual.
All things are fixable it simply depends on if you wish to spend the $$ to repair.
In my opinion, after that long, the monitor should be replaced, as even if repaired it would still have old components in it, and we find, that once a unit faults, it will usually fail again inside of a year, according to stats too.
So you would be better putting any money for a repair into a new monitor with a warranty...

You may have gotten a light debris in the lens. Just the littlest amount will cause the lens to jam. Try a can of compressed air and blowing it out.

Hello, A family member gave me a CTX S760 17- LCD Monitor. When I hook it up and start my PC the screen looks GREAT for about 15 sec or so and then goes black. Same thing will happen if I power off the...

christoph972, This really sounds like a SMPS going into SHUTDOWN MODE after detecting a fault in the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" electronic ballast circuit which is called an INVERTER CIRCUIT, or it has a problem all by itself. The big question is? ? ? WHAT is causing the fault? I need you to do the flashlight test to evaluate the condition of the LCD monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply". With a KNOWN-GOOD, fully booted pc that has the WIN-desktop showing, reconnect the S760 to the pc. then and only then push the "ON" button for the monitor and note what happens. After the screen goes black, shine a bright flashlight at different angles about 1" from the LCD screen. Get back to me with the results of test. Did you see or not see the WIN-DESKTOP? Also visit YOUTUBE and search for and view videos of typical lcd monitor disassembly and or lcd repair. FYI only!! The longer ones (8-12min) will be more informative. The symptom you have with this freebie monitor is classic! It could possibily be repaired for $12 or less. Get back to me here at fixya by posting another comment to the above stuff you already did.
