Link the Nextar GPS and a personal computer by using the USB cable provided with the purchase. Make sure the device and computer are powered up.
Visit the NaviExtras website register the Nextar GPS with the site >>

Proceed to follow the Map Update tutorial. NaviExtras will allow the user to store the updates on the computer until space is made on the GPS by deleting older files or countries or regions that are not used.

Hi.
You are facing this problem because of the US GPS Satellite because there's a sudden change with the code signal which leads to GPS signal anomalies.
Even though you've traded it. the problem is still there.
It's better to go with another brand or model.
As this problem cannot be fixed with this unit.

Contact Nextar personally and request that free upgrades be made available. This is my review I tried to post on Buy.com.

After working with high end GPS units for six years, using the Nextar X4-T was my first exposure to a consumer grade product. While this unit is very easy to use out of the box, the accuracy of the vector data and the quality of its supporting database leaves much to be desired. Some of the data on this unit, particularly around my home, is at least five years old. You would need a bulldozer to reach my house following its instructions. In addition, the current 911 rural street address for my home does not exist in this unit and I've been at this location for 10 years. If an emergency responder was depending on this data to reach a location to provide life saving assistance, where every minute counts, I afraid it could cost someone their life. I realize that creating this type of data is time consuming and costly, but I also know that better data exists and is available. Unfortunately, after contacting Nextar and requesting updated data, I was informed that it was not available. Nextar purchases their data from Navteq just like Garmin which has 2008 and 2009 data available. I believe Nextar should provide the most current data available to their customers at no charge and that Buy.com should require that they do so or quit marketing their products. [email protected]

I'm about to purchase the same model. I'm reading the instructions I printed off Nextar's site and it does say the unit is designed with SD card slot and supports MP3 and WMA format files playback. You can insert ther SD card with MP3 or WMA files in the unit for music enjoyment.

You can buy an FM modulator at any wal-mart that will plug easily into the headphone port on the gps unit and play the sound out through the radio in your car. I had the same problem with my nextar gps but since I purchased the fm modulator it is plenty loud enough.
