I have a porter cable 16' variable scroll saw. the tension knob on the back will not stay in place, hence making the blade loose, how can I fix this.

Try some blue LocTite thread fastener. It's an anaerobic-hardening resin. Remove the knob enough to get a drop onto the threads, then snug it up. Going forward, repeat as necessary. Just a drop.
Better than lock-washers. Scrollsaws basically just vibrate their little blades up & down.

Why do i have excessive vibration /broken blades with a sears scroll saw

You have poor quality blades (try Olsen blades), or
You're forcing the work past the blade (just "offer" the work to the blade, let it cut, don't force it to cut), or
Your tension is too high, or
Your tension is too low, or
Your blades are getting installed upside-down (teeth point DOWN).

How do I put the chain back on the blade

Loosen the screws that hold the blade in place and make it "shorter" by pushing the blade in. Put the chain on it and extend the blade out until it's tight again, but not too tight. It should have a little give to it. Retighten the screws that hold the blade in place.

I have had to replace the tension adjustment rod several times. It is not expensive, but still a hassle and seems to strip out more than it should. I do allot of inside cuts requiring me to loosen and...

ryobi is not that hot brand, material used by them is worthless and suitable for occasional use only. i would suggest another brand...

it is slight possibility that you pressurise material against the blade too much, but then you would burn the blade not the tensioner. you will break the blade before you break tension rod.

personally i am using craftsman and bosh, both are nearly as old as i am and insofar never replaced (beside the blades and bushes on the motors) any parts on them.

if you need to change tensioner, then something is definitely wrong with machine, i am using bosh for nearly 40 years, craftsman nearly 30 years and never replaced tensioners or indeed anything in them. scrollsaw is by definitionbuild to take this punishment, you change blades sometime several times on single piece, especially when you do coarse and then detail cut. would suggest ditch that one and buy better one...

by the way, i am doing parquetry, inlays and marquetry on mine...

Now that you have the 2 screw in and not tight place the blade like this You need to hold the blade with one hand and with your Philips screw driver tap the cutter blade back lightly until the cutter teeth are 2/32 back from the comb blade. askmanny_14.jpg
the cutter blade which is the smaller blade is back 2/32 from the comb blade which is the bigger blade. When this is done by holding the blade together with your finger & Thumb askmanny_15.jpg
Tighten the 2 screws tight askmanny_16.jpg

I have an Remington 3.25 (Peak Hp) 16"/40, 6 cm electric chain saw, And I have just a few questions 1.) Does it take oil/gas or just oil and if so what kind. 2.) How would I tighten the chain, its...

It uses oil only to lubricate the chain. The type of oil in not critical although special chain saw oil is available. If you use anything but chain saw blade oil, make sure that it is a light oil, both in viscosity and in colour because it is a total loss system and dark or dirty oil can become very messy. The chain adjustment is on the body at the end of the blade, it actually moves the blade in or out to set the chain tension. The chain should be tensioned that when it is pulled at the bottom, the guides of the chain should not quite come out of the slot in the blade. If the chain is too tight it overheats the blade and stretches the chain.

How to repace tenison pully

first releave the tension as you normally would by using a breaker bar and socket and move the serpentine belt aside. Then you remove the center bolt on the pulley itself. Install new pulley and replace the serpentine.
